Xenon Stopped Working - Ballast, Ignitor or Bulb?
« on: July 17, 2012, 11:53:43 am »
So, as per title. Looking for a little advise.

My left hand side xenon stopped working last night and I was wondering if there was any easy way to tell if this was due to the ballast/ignitor or the bulb itself?

I am imagining that the ignitors/ballasts are quite expensive to buy?

Thanks

Bulb out warning illuminated on dash display?

Easy way is to just swap the front bulbs over and see if it works

Yea the display says "front left dipped beam not working" or words to that effect...

I'll try and swap the bulbs over tonight and see. Guessing it's not hard to get to on the mk5 Golf Xenon units?

Thanks

The left hand bulb went on the girlfriends Eos, was the bulb and costs £140+ from VW

if the bulb has a metal box attached to it then the bulb is a 'D1S'. Can pick them up on ebay for £30-£70, best to get a pair as they colour changes slightly over time and the one you have left will probably be different.

Not sure if changing the bulb is that much different on an Eos from a GTI but it was a bumper off and headlights out job!

hope that helps
