How badly does a remap affect Clutch & Gearbox wear?

Also known as the Slippery Slope. Remember that any performance/handling mod you do may place more stress on other components and highlight weaknesses/failures earlier.

Apologies if interpreted as a thread high jack but it is essentially the same question but applied to a MkV GTI on 90k miles. I have the urge for more power but am worried about stressing other components considering the mileage.

What do you guys think? Should I just go for a stage 1 and take whatever comes?

The only component likely to fail is the clutch - mine slips a bit after a remap sometimes (it still works fine for setting off & driving normally).

An upgrade to the clutch will cost around £700 so bear that in mind

There are many GTI's on this forum with stage 2 remaps and turbo upgrades and more than 100k miles on the clock. Providing the car is serviced properly then it should be fine  :happy2:
