Sonic6103:
Hi everyone,

I've not been on here much recently because I've been mad busy with my medical discharge from the forces, restoring my '78 Mini Van, wedding, sorting xmas stuff out, etc etc.

I know there's usually lots of people asking questions about brakes and usually get the same replies I'm guessing but I'm after similar advice but have a few certain options in mind so far but I have no clue which is going to be best suited/value for me.

First off, I've stopped using my car for the winter but when I got the camblet done the other week at VW they also told me my brakes needed replacing (Front discs & pads and rear discs i think it was) so basically I want to upgrade them now. The car is currently at stage one and I'm still not bored of it but maybe next year I think I might upgrade to stage 2 or 2+ and I'll be using it for the odd fast road use but also for hopefully a track day every one or 2 months through the summer. With this in mind I'm unsure if I'm best off just upgrading my disc and pads or getting a big brake kit or going with something similar to the S3 conversion etc?

I had some minor trouble with my local tuner and because of this they've offered to discount whichever brakes I decide to go with. I have standard ED30 wheels by the way too. Here's a few links to what options I've had put forward to me so far.... Please can anyone advise or give constructive criticism about each one and also if anyone comes up with anything else like the S3 brakes then please can you give me an idea of current prices?

I have the r32  brakes all round on my tdi and the difference is like night and day--i was looking at the forge or brembo brakes but can't justify spending that much on a set of brakes on a car that won't be going on the track

zerolag:
Currently using Tarox Strada pads on the fronts, have a nice bite to them.

I've got an Eddy and have just bought some Porsche 986/987 Cayman/Boxster Calipers (4 pot) as these seem a great upgrade from the standard set up, weigh as much as a bag of sugar and look the nuts. You'll need a fitting kit from DaveB on the forum, better still, read the tread...

I think, all in It is costing me around £800 for an "as new" Brembo 4 pot porsche brake set up. I think you may need 5mm spacers if your going to run them under the Pescara's. I am going to lose some extra weight (along with the brakes) and am getting some Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 18" wheels as well.
