Something to condsider is the accident breakdown insurance from the AA.

Now its not as comprehensive as a warranty and you do have to pay a £50 excess on any claims but then it only costs about £70 for the year and they will cover any breakdowns / issues you have as long as you call the AA out on your breakdown assistance.

You can take the car to any garage you want and they will pay the first £500 of any bill.  Even covers A / C compressors  :wink:

Anything engine / suspension / gearbox etc is covered as long as you have a service history.  Seems good value to me...

You are not limited to getting an extended warranty from VW. Have you looked at surf and protect amongst others?
