Halfords sell a branded glue/gum remover, Stick stuff Remover. I used this last year on exactly the same job on my mk4 estate and worked really well.

Surprised Tardis has not been able to remove it. Its been able to clean most sticky stuff for us. Might be worth trying to clear off all the sponge just leaving the sticky and using the tardis on that.

Clay bar might also work although never tried it on sticky stuff
