Didn't realise you only lived near Darlington-give me a shout when you want to meet up..Get joined up on the vag car forum and holds some excellent meets with over 100 at the last one

I see this all the time people claiming to have "Straight through" systems but infact they have a backbox still
Here's my PD170 with No boxes at all, and when i say no boxes i mean no boxes, basically a pipe from turbo to back
Its really hard to catch on camera just how "boomy" it was, at first i loved it, but after a few weeks it got annoying as a daily driver

If someone has a "straight through" then by definition it has no boxes surely?
As mentioned before it depends on the car, the owner and what they like. Mine has a strange resonation just under 2000rpm but as I am never at that exact revs for a long period of time it is not a bother to me.
Under normal driving conditions while it's very loud outside the car, inside it's actually relatively quiet, especially on an open road. However yes from outside or houses then people are probably making threads on forums on the internet complaining about it.
I've done several 3+ hour drives with the exhaust on mine (since the turbo upgrade) and never once have I yet felt it was annoying. At 80mph on cruise it's hardly any quieter than normal until you open it up..
AndrewJB:
Yeh most people claim to have straight through but what they have is a backbox still :signLOL:
Mine just annoyed me going to work at 5am, on motorway etc it was very loud but i didnt mind it was funny all the wagon drivers flashing me with the noise and black smoke... but we all grow up and get Stage2+ 2.0TFSI's
xjay1337:
Haha, no smoke no poke as they say! A lot of how it sounds can be down to the turbo as well, in addition to injector duration settings which can give a very aggressive tone.
