JPC:
I can appreciate where your comin from with the boat vs train scenario robin, but I'll tell you why I prefer them.

From my house to Dover is a good 3.5 hour, which is fine to do in one hit. After that you want a bit of a mental break. Normally I'm driving to Switzerland or mid France off the boat. So the ferry gives me a good 1.5 hours break to get some rest and let my brain come back to work.

So in that sense -
my house to Davos(switzerland) = do able via rest on ferry.
My house to davos = not doable if using the train with out a huge break

I guess I just like to be efficient with my breaks whilst on the road!

I can appreciate all I just said goes out of the window if you live an hour or so away from folkstone/Dover.

I totally appreciate what you're saying, Jay - I was forgetting that I normally stay not far from Folkestone the night before. However, I always manage to drive back home in one hit - Usually around 750 miles - Something else kicks in, but helped by the faster European roads.

Did 1200 miles in one sitting with no break, Its mind numbing!!! only stopped for petrol.

Not as bad as Tom though  :signLOL:  how long was it?? 33 hours??  :signLOL:

JPC:
it was erm.... 26 i think.

We drove from Le Mans in Northern france to Vilamoura In Portugal on the southern coast in one hit.

That was the scenic route too! through all the pyrenees! it was awesome!

tony_danza:
Did you Northern boys not think of doing the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam??

What it costs extra in booking, you save on fuel, hotel at Dover and fatigue. Something to think about for next time maybe.
