After saying for far too long that "one day I'm gonna wrap my gearstick surround, today was the day.....and I'm well pleased with the results

All parts stripped down!

In a bit of a sorry state  :jumping:
Scratched and rubber coating starting to peel.

Arlon 4600LX PerformancePlus Matt Black Vinyl was used.

All wrapped. Just a bit more trimming.

Nearly done. Parts going back together.

Cleaned up and protected with Swissvax Opaque Wax. (For Matt Paint and Vinyl)

All done, but will it match ok with the rest of the centre consoles rubber coating???

As you can see it looks great!

It's as close a match as you will get  :jumpmove:

Close up shot to see the match against the ashtray colour.

Another close up. (Sorry about the dust)  :innocent:

Hey Carlos, thanks for pointing to this in my thread.  I'm a little confused as to how you separated the DSG knob and gaiter from the actual surround?

Could you give me any pointers as I'm hoping to tackle it in the coming week.

Thanks,
Faz

Hi Faz, it's really easy mate, but you have to go gentle when raising the leather gaitor.

Just get your fingers in at the edge of the leather where it meets the ali bezel.
Then grab and pull the edge of the gaitor inwards towards the gearstick.
Gently do this all round the gaitor until it is released and free from the surround.

Lift the gaitor above the gear knob turning the leather inside out.

You do Not need to remove the gear knob or gaitor.

Then you can gently lift/prise up the whole gear stick surround and remove from the car.
REMEMBER to disconnect the wire to the bulb on the gear selector bezel.
You will see it easily enough, just don't go yanking the surround straight up without disconnecting it

Then separating the various parts from the surround is very straight forward. :happy2:

If you need any help just give me a shout

I've just come across this thread and been through it all, nice read, a well kept Eddy. That wrap is awesome mate! What kind of price are you looking for a good wrap as I have no idea? I've heard about issues when removing wraps but I don’t know if this is when people have applied the wrap themselves.

Wolf Burger:
I'm not into wraps.

However when you see this car you will be.
I've seen loads of Mk5's now and this is a ridiculously clean car.
Still the best one I have seen.
