Please can anyone help me decide if by replacing my mk5 R32 engine with a edition 30 engine, will it be a better allrounder? As we know, the R32 are slow, but have the 4 wheel drive system, the edition 30 engine is much more disireable

An ED30 motor'd R32 is going to be a world of pain to try and sell, where as a charged R32, at least you can strip the kit off and sell it seperately to get some money back.

I'm sure someone will gladly relieve you of many thousands of pounds to make it work, a fool and his money are easily parted, as they say.
Sideways yo!

Although, i have to admit, its a totally pointless excercise. It would be cheaper just buying an S3 and selling the R or even super/turbo charging the R.

....I tend to agree! Super/turbo charging the R would be favourite for me.

a tuned edition 30 engine produces a fair amount of torque, so what the fcuk would a bloody great TWIN turbo or supercharged R32 engine produce. More than enough to trouble the 4WD i bet, my friends WR1 impreza is runing 380bhp and he can light his wheels up easily

The other point to make is that even if you were to fit an ED30 engine it would never be as quick as an identical ED30 as the 4WD system will make the car heavier.  :stupid:

(Cue the wet weather conditions quotes! )

i thought that haldex controller could allow you to bias most of the power to the rear wheels, if thats the case, i think it might be better in corners full stopwet or dry, ed 30 in a straight line though

There is already a 2.0T FSI 4WD car available.. Swapping the engine would not be an easy task at all!

You would need the S3 running gear, so effectively your making a Golf bodied S3.. Pretty expensive and would make far more sense to go with an S3 if thats what your after..

ludicrous idea!

Who would want to buy an R with an ED30 engine?

Sell the R and buy an ED30!

ed 30 in a straight line though

Yeah, 300 fwd cars are usually quicker than 500bhp 4wd cars  :signLOL:

Erm,
R32 + Turbo = £21k and 500bhp
S3 + Remap = £21k and 350(ish?) bhp

Not sure what you mean mate?

Turbo the 32 is the much better idea over an ED30 with 4wd, thats called an S3!

Obviously, it was pretty clear for those that can read!

I advised that Super/Turboing was the way to go if he wants to stick with his current car. Otherwise, buy an S3. Putting an S3 drivetrain into the .:R would not be cost effective and cost many thousands more.
