awful lot of "snap shots" picked...  :innocent:

This ^^^^ I had the same gripe last year, but yes.... It's all a bit "snapshot-tastic" unfortunately.

Most photos are spot on like! Done a good job.  :congrats:

But I think if you picked the best photo from each person submitting and called a vote then no one could complain..?

.
For those who have a "gripe" (which actually means "something trivial") about either last year's calendar or this year's, Neil and I can only choose from the photographs which are submitted.

It depends how you define "calendar worthy" but if more photographs which might be described as "calendar worthy" by some (and not "snapshot-tastic") had been submitted then we probably wouldn't be having this discussion.

If one photographer such as professional jonm had photographed all the cars then I am sure that the calendar as a whole package would meet a "calendar worthy" standard but be honest guys, such a photographic project simply isn't practical without being funded to cover the photographer's and others costs. If every member of this forum who submitted their car photos was a professional photographer then I expect "calendar worthiness" would also be achieved.

However, the calendar represents the forum membership and their cars. It also gives members an opportunity to photograph their cars to their best ability, to enjoy doing so, and to enjoy seeing their efforts published. It's clear to me from the PMs I have received so far today that most folks here are genuinely very happy with our selection.

To put down other people's efforts as "snapshot-tastic" is frankly very disrespectful to other enthusiasts here. I would even go further and say it appears to stink of photographic snobbery.

Neil and I have chosen a group of photographs which are (a) reproduceable (b) representative (c) sit comfortably together as a collection. All Neil and myself can do is work with what photos we are offered.

....I repeat!.... All Neil and myself can do is work with the photos we are offered.

If you would like to know why we chose your photo of Thor's car over your photo of your car, I'd be happy to tell you.

And just for the record. I wouldn't consider the photo I took of thors car to be up to par either... So don't think I'm pointing fingers.

....Whether technically inferior or not, it's got a lot more going for it than the one of your car you submitted this year. Why? Because it's much more real-life and dynamic and less studio setup. The version you did last year with Greeners hanging out the window was the best car snap of yours I have ever seen - It was absolutely brilliant, not due to anything technical but because it was emotive. Thor's car pic has far more emotion and that's far more important than anything else in a photograph.

I think we are making Robin's and Neil's work a lot harder by sharring our thoughs so soon.
I think the best way is to have the calendar delivered and than give a constuctive feedback to it's creators.
If I were envolved in the calendars' creation and even before it got out I would have received negative feedback, I would have have been a bit fed up. I think it helps if we put ourselves in Robin's and Neil's shoes before giving a feedback...

And as another remark, please remember we are each unique and we don't have the same taste. So I guess each one of us would have chosen different photos (me included).

So far each calendar was a true joy to watch and there is no reason to expect anything from this one.
Really looking forward to seening the finished product!

....By you challenging our choice of forum calendar photographs you put your own efforts up for validation in that context.

I accept and respect that our views and choices may differ but I feel obliged to respond openly and frankly.

Good hard work again by two forum members and I, and many others thank them for this. Thanks to Robin and Neil.....looking forward to seeing the finished product again. :happy2:

Food for thought.......If you've got nothing positive to say...maybe just say nothing at all!

Very defensive comment for what was, really, not a very derogatory or negative comment IMO.
It's a forum people can share their thoughts. Normally I am pretty blunt but even tried to word my post very positively. Richard's post wasn't exactly mean or anything.

I don't think anyone is "having a dig". All been escalated a bit too far imo :(
