"About Us
York Raceway has been hosting drag racing since the '70s. What's drag racing in 12 words? A 1/4-mile sprint race, from a standing start between two cars. Simple, but it gets more interesting as it gets more complex. Soon it's all about power, control and reaction. And before you know, it can be taking control of you. At York, spectators become participants and participants become racers...!

York Raceway has good access, ample parking and is one of only three permanent drag strip facilities in the UK. It is equipped with world-class TSI timing equipment, which gives you a printout from each run, with your reaction time, 60', 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile times and speeds to 1/100mph and 1/1000second.

York has a great, friendly atmosphere and a reputation for efficiently run events and a weather profile similar to Brighton's!

From rodders to modders or classics, we run a number of series to provide for all to race or RWYB. The Northern Drag Racing Championship is the bracket (ie handicap racing) series, the Hot Rod Challenge series for 'heads up' racing, plus the American Super Stock series and the 2NZ series for tuners and modifiers. There's something there for everyone, spectators and racers alike, hit the 'What's on' button for more, or go to events.

How to get there

York Raceway is east of York, on the old Melbourne airfield, near Seaton Ross. It's a signposted 12-mile country drive from junction 37 off of the M62.

How to get racing

Gates open at 8am on race days, scrutineering from 9 am, sign on at the PDRC Office (or at the Tower for run what you've brung) and the track opens at 10am.

Signing on to race? How to beat the queue!

To race, you need to be a member of a recognised club, PRDC (Pennine Drag Racing Club), York Raceway’s drivers’ club. PDRC recognises Shakespeare County Raceway’s or Santa Pod’s equivalent. So you need to complete the PDRC membership form.

To race, you also need a race licence. An MSA licence will do, or an IOPD licence, which you can download the application form here. The licence costs £10* for one year, or £5 for a single event (*includes PDRC membership subsidy of £5).

And you need to complete two race entry forms. When you complete the new entry form, your details will subsequently be added to the database, so there’s now no need to re-do a form for each event, providing there’s no change to your details. In future, for the next round, just get scrutineered, simply re-sign at the PDRC office and you are gone in 30 seconds (as opposed to the usual 60 seconds). The second entry form to complete is the participant’s contract.

Finally, there is the temporary (RWYB) permit, this enables you to run some RWYB passes, in case you need a bit of a shakedown or some track time outside of competition. There’s no additional cost for this, so you may as well do it!
