Park Assist Retrofit on a MK5

Here we have one of those jobs which isn't possible (or so VW say) but will become a reality and I image, copied extensively so stay at it Si. :congrats:

What sort of money did you give for the ABS unit as I'm just on with the front and rear OPS mod?

Would others need to fit 30 Byte CECM if they intend to copy your mod?

What errors are you expecting not to be able to clear with VCDS?

Evening John

I looked at various ABS units from the part numbers Ed gave me (also by year) i decided on the BJ unit as someone else had supplied me with a VCDS scan of a golf R and thats what that car used , varying in price from £80 to over £400 on various ebays, i didn't want the cheapest unit i could find so i stumped for a unit from German ebay for £170 it looked brand new.

as you can see from the carsystems.pl links the upgrade kit cost me £180 from them

I don't think the CECM is going to play any part in the mod, unless you can think of anything i've missed :)

as such i don't know what errors or problems i'm going to get yet with VCDS as I need to wait for various bits to seal the brake system, to then fill it, to bleed it, to start the engine, to do basic settings on the ABS unit via VCDS, to code it up to finally see what faults or problems i have

so lots of little hurdles to come yet mate but i'm really behind this and pretty sure it can be done.

the only thing i'm not sure about is if it will display on a full red MFD for other people to follow this, i have a white one at the mo so hoping again it will be ok??

i'll keep you posted

Si

doylebros:
I recently retrofitted park assist and front fogs to MKVI match and that's why I said CECM (which BCM) but that's me being silly, cause it was for the fogs.

(That as a job isn't bad, as Eddie-NL kept me right, but those MKVI bumper skins are rubbish and for my money wouldn't stand many goes at removal and refitting!)

Who's the supplier of your pin removal tool? as I use a Laser one which couldn't take a lot of action!

If you do struggle with this I see it more on error free coding than the mechanical aspects,so you could spend as much time solving that, on the plus side at least it's in the comfort of the car, not under it,or on your knees!

Let's know if I can help in anyway and would happily do so!

John.

A bit of an update, more stuff added to first post, the ABS module is bled and all coded up !! (cheers to Ed for the code) the car is back on the road and going well, will be testing Park assist this weekend after I finish off a small bit of wiring.
