so am i right in thinking that with the stage 1 fix it prevents any of the oil etc. ever touching the intake valves?

Unfortunately no.

Yup, catch can or a vent to atmosphere setup.

Right fitting to side of catch can / left fitting to top of catch can is the advised orientation, although it can be plumbed in either way with no ill effect.

Then why bother asking the question here and also starting a new thread if your so sure? I myself fitted my catch can as per the instructions on the BSH website but since changed after being advised by Phil @ BSH. Have you actually read through this thread? http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8243.30

....Because it is (and certainly has been) a bit confusing and because we are supposed to be here to help each other by speaking to each other a tad more politely. Not everybody manages to read every single thread and post.

^^^
How do I? You asked a question and i thought i'd help by giving you the answer you were looking for, only for you to question it. I was merely pointing out that you needn't ask the question in the first place if you thought you already knew the answer and all you were going to do is doubt peoples advice.

Anyway no offence was intended and i hope the fitting of the can goes well.  :happy2:
