Broken Delphi aircon compressor? Possible fix.
MPS:
How can the splines just wear away like they're made of chocolate or something?
skard:
The original must be a softer metal than the compressor shaft, as that had no rounding of the splines.

I have the same issue on my b6 Passat. Does any one know how the centre screw is removed if the compressor shaft is still able to spin? How do you lock the compressor shaft to enable the screw to be removed. Hopefully this will fix my problems if the screws all come out. Does the new plate simply slide on to the shaft?
DonCowleone:
Don't know if you fixed it yet Peter but I just had the same issue a couple of weeks ago but the black outer piece had come off the rest of the clutch plate and so was jingling around. I also struggled with the centre screw and resorted in the end to hacksawing the head off, I was then able to get to the centre shaft with grips and remove the rest of the screw, piece of cake after that... VW wanted to charge me £818 to fix, and that was including their 20% off goodwill gesture... Jokers!
Hacksawing took a while though, and not much skin left on my fingers!
