Loud clicking noise from engine

(1/16) > >>

Yorkie92:
Hello everyone

I am new to Golf GTi ownership so I am not sure if this is normal but I have a loud clicking noise from the front of the engine. I searched Google and it led to the cam follower, so I changed that but the noise is still there  :sad1:

I can hear the noise even when I'm about 15 meters in front of the car so I can't see how it can be normal?

Any help or advice would be appreciated and as I am new to all this you might have to bare with me a bit

PS: Its a 2006 GTi DSG.

Thanks
Yorkie

Hi dude
My 2005 sounds the same. Wouldn't say clicking noise mine is like a ticking noise pritty loud dunno if this is normal but never misses a beat and pulls strong lol

Yorkie92:
Yeah that sounds a better word for it
I have only had the car about a month but it goes fine with no drama.
Their has to be something wrong as I can't imagine VW making a car with that sound  :stupid:

I also have this noise seems to be from the top of the engine googled a lot to research think I finally found the answer to mine and I think it's the cam timing chain and tensioner! Either that or tappets but sounds too loud to be tappets in my opinion hope this helps

Yorkie92:
The car just had a major service two weeks ago so I'm supprised they didn't say anything
It's from the top right if looking at engine. I will look into the timing chain and tensioner
