Get him to have a look on egay - £300-400 for a new unit including all necessary extras.

If he thinks the mfd2 is worth £700, then either he's getting ripped (may be buying mfd3 from dealer - it's £1500 from them!) off if he's buying the mfd3, or he's trying to rip you off.
