Dans grey MK5 GTI. Prepping for VagTuner
dansmith180:
Some things are going on
As you can see it was pretty damn filthy in there, also it was quite gunky instead of the hard dried carbon you usually find.
Also turns out I was wrong in thinking I had the vibratechnics dogbone mount, in fact I have the subframe mount and my dogbone mount is pretty badly split.
So that will be replaced and I will have the full set of 4 vibratechnics mounts.
Crank pulley and bolt was also replaced due to rust along with the new Cam belt and cam chain.
Engine overall seems to be pretty good which I'm obviously pleased about as I had never seen it run so was always a bit of a gamble.

Wow! what a difference on those inlets. How did you get them clean??
Cheers,
Chris

Alex at AKS did it.
I believe he starts by scraping/ brushing what he can (possibly with some sort of cleaning solution) but the main thing is he uses a walnut blaster to get them mint.
ChrisGT:
Ah right, the walnut shell blasting seems to be getting quite popular, certainly looks like it works!
Cheers,
Chris
AJP:
Nice progress Dan.
Always a bit scary seeing just how much crap is deposited on the valves. Might look into this if and when I go hybrid or k04.
