Cam Follower - Reinforced Version?

(1/2) > >>

akbarirfan:
Hi All,

I just spoke with Roy from Autobarn here in Basingstoke, I want to replace the cam follower in my car and he advised that there are uprated cam followers around - does anybody have any experience with them? Or where to buy them from?

I want to got to Stage 1 and would like to not have to replace these every 10-15k miles!!

Also does anybody know which gasket/seal is required when doing this job? I believe it is the Fuel Pump gasket but not sure.

This one maybe..

Thanks,

Irfan

Uprated version?! Would be nice!

When replacing my CF, I always replace this seal also: WHT 005 184.
Hope to help!

Later edit 1: found this (VW FSI Performance Cam Follower) and this (KMD Uprated Cam Follower).
Later edit 2: seems that there is a recall for failing CFs - Audi TSB 150702.

In the UK you don't need to replace every 10-15k. Realistically every 50k, unless very highly tuned or used for heavy track use. Most people just stick with OEM.

I've never replaced the seal, and never had a leak.

Having seen and repaired an mashed cam I'll be changing mine every 10-15k. It's only 30 quid.

There's 2 upgrades available:-

This one - http://hpfpupgrade.com/Products/Show/Volkswagen/2.0T+FSI/VW+FSI+Performance+Cam+Follower

And a kit from INA Engineering which replaces the cam follower with a roller follower from the TSI engine.

Neither are proven, so the best bet is regular oil changes and check the follower every 2nd oil change.  It's not a lot of work to change and cheap.  So far there isn't a better, permanent, solution.
