Ed30: Brake upgrades - Any one use 996 + 330mm discs (+brackets....)
edd30:
Hi,
I've just got myself a 07 ED30. I know there are plenty of threads on here about using boxster (non S) , 996TT, TTRS, R32 calipers.
The car needs new discs front and back. I have a pair of nearly new Porsche Boxster S calipers (same as 996 fronts) 996.351.425 & 996.351.426. I know most people seem to go for the 986, Boxster (non-S) calipers. I'd like to use the 996 ones, as it seems such a shame to sell these ones and buy 986 ones that need new seals and powder coating etc. I'd like to keep the option of fitting 17" winter rims, so not go above 330mm discs.
Anyone use 996.351.425/6 and 330mm discs for MB C Class sport (W203 etc) and what are your thoughts on them ? The kit I'm considering is being sold on ebay # 150823463377.
Thanks

Founds out that the discs are from a MB SLK350, with these specs :
Brake Disc Thickness [mm] 28,0 Brake Disc Type Perforated / Vented
Centering Diameter [mm] 67 Diameter [mm] 330
Height [mm] 46,5 Hole Arrangement / Number 05/07
Minimum Thickness [mm] 26 Pitch Circle [mm] 112
Supplementary Article/Supplementary Info 2 without wheel hub, without wheel studs Weight [kg] 9,62
The standard Golf GTI discs are :
Brake Disc Thickness [mm] 25,0 Brake Disc Type Vented
Centering Diameter [mm] 65 Diameter [mm] 312
Height [mm] 49,9 Hole Arrangement / Number 09/10
Minimum Thickness [mm] 22 Pitch Circle à [mm] 112
Supplementary Article/Supplementary Info 2 without wheel hub, without wheel studs Weight [kg] 8,25
So 1.25Kg heavier per side. The centering diameter is 2mm larger on the SLK, would it be a problem is practice ? I know the wheel bolts should hold it hub centric, I'm thinking it may vibrate ?
Any experiences out there ?
Thanks

EddieA:
This is the set up that I run and the car has been perfect on them, I use a centering ring on the disc just to stop them moving around.
