Nice looking GTI Luke. Great write up.
Where did you take the power for the dashcam from ?
Do you have any photos ?

Thanks! I took the power direct from the fuse box. Brief how to:
Trace the cable behind the driver side airbag column to the inside of the fuse box.
Connect the cigarette end on the dashcam into this attachment - http://www.ebay.ie/itm/12V-24V-Single-Waterproof-Cigarette-Lighter-Auxiliary-Power-Socket-Car-Motorbike-/380503208544?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5897c23260
Connect the red wire on the attachment above onto this red wire from the piggy back attachment http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Add-A-Circuit-Fuse-Tap-Piggy-Back-Standard-Blade-Fuse-Holder-ATO-ATC-12v-24v-/170709632237
Connect the black wire to a ring end and earth it onto a bolt inside the fuse box.
Plug the fuse into an empty fuse inside the fuse box.
I'll get a photo there of the set up inside when I'm at the car if you need.

I bought one of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-DC-Converter-Step-down-12V-24V-to-5V-micro-USB-output-Power-Supply-for-car-/321503456540
The fuse tap gadget looks interesting, no messing around with the loom, just the ticket. Which fuse position did you use ? Suppose I could just measure it with a meter and the ignition on & off, so that it is switched.

Are you sure your cable is long enough?
If you look at the fuse board, the live ones are recognisable by a silver look on the inside. The blank ones have nothing. Just plug and play. I used one with free space either side to get extra room.

No it isn't, I fitted one to my other car and extended the 12v side. The converter is wedged in with foam inside the overhead light cluster.
I also plan to change the lower wishbone, ball joints for the TT version, gives camber adjustment. Probably change the top mounts for the Cupra/TT versions too.
