I bought a 200 bhp GTI two weeks ago and I'm getting about 30 mpg.  Is that about right?

Yeah, that's a good mpg. It can easily be less than 20 mpg if you drive harder/faster.

With my engine I'm not sure I ever got less than 40 mpg driving outside the cities.

Thanks, just wanted confirmation that there's nothing amiss.  I must be honest that's taking me time in it.  Love the motor though,  I'll get a thread up of my own soon with a pic of two...
