Dazza's Maintenance Thread

dazza:
Been on here a while now. Not really a build thread yet mainly maintenance stuff.
Prior to this car the most i had ever done maintenance wise was change the battery.

First thing i noticed was the outer CV boot. Went to a few local garages who wanted to stretch a new boot on, as it had been ripped for a while this was pointless as joint would probably fail. Removing the drive shaft was easy getting the joint off was a bit of a PITA.

Then did a basic service oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and fuel filter.
And the cam follower.

Bit of work on the interior:
RNS-510 with SSD
Amp & sub
Buttons for garage and gate.
Replaced door grab handles, window switches, light switch and gear trim. (Car was previously owned by a transvestite).

*
Diverter Valve:
Was only getting about 9psi boost. So replaced rev B diverter valve with rev D.

By now i was gaining a bit of confidence in my DIY skills so serviced the DSG as there was no mention of it being serviced @ 80K.
Also did a bit of work on the brakes, new OEM discs all round, Hawk HPS Brake Pads and Ate Super Blue Brake Fluid. Sorry no pics of this.

Noticed the other outer CV boot was also ripped much easier this time as i new what i was doing.

Polished out some very deep scratches on the bonnet. When i said the car was owned by a transvestite i was not joking.

The alternator clutch pulley was f*cked this was an absolute PITA broke two torx bits trying to get this off. Got there in the end.

*
Although the boot handle had no white worm decided to change it for a newer one.

Did a bit more work on the interior installed a cherry red hazard switch. Messed about with some vinyl and wrapped the clocks and gear trim.

Changed the cam chain, tensioner and adjustor. Made a few mistakes with this one but got there in the end.

Added R8 Coil packs and NGK Iridium BKR7EIX Plugs.

dazza:
Finished things off today fixed the broken coil pack clip thanks to again to @bigmig95 .
Still need a piece of the split wire cover the piece the dealers gave me is to big.

Put the crappy borescope i bought on ebay to good use and found the torx bit i lost when changing the cam chain etc..

Scottymon:
That CF looks about ready to cave in.

It was probably the original CF @ a little less than 90k.
Also explains the slight marks on the cam lobe.

I keep coming back to the tapping noise from the HPFP. I'm sure its noisier than it should be.

GrayMK5GTI:
If your cam lobe has slightly worn, it will eat followers  :scared:

Maybe worth checking or replacing at each service
