Boot struts

Hi, I just noticed today that when my boot is in its fully open position the offside strut is quite loose. If you grab it and shake it there is quite a it of play in it. There is a little nut next to where it joins the body which I could easily turn by hand but this just seems to be spinning on itself. Any ideas guys?
