Should I be worried?!

(1/1)

NathED30:
Bought a new oil filler cap for my ed30 and when I went to change it I noticed this, I know it can be a sign of head-gasket failure and I have also heard this is a common tfsi thing. I haven't driven it much lately and when I have it hasn't really been very far, only 10 miles or so at a time.

looks fine to me, more like condensation due to the engine not really warming up on the short trips

however, check that you are not using more coolant then normal - if that's OK then I wouldn't worry

GrayMK5GTI:
Discussed in te mk5 General area at least twice recently. .

If you do lots of short trips, then this is perfectly normal  :happy2:

Should clear up after a long run

NathED30:
Thanks guys!

As stated before ^^^^
Very common on cars that don't do long journeys
The only time you should be worried if-
-your oil cap (gunk) becomes thick and gloopy
-Coolant leaking externally from bellow the exhaust manifold
-White smoke from the exhaust pipe
-Overheating engine
-Bubbles in the radiator or coolant overflow tank
-White milky oil
-Significant loss of coolant with no visible leaks

But it looks like yours is fine,
Just keep a eye on it when you do your other checks like oil and water levels
