Yea there is a heat shield to come off just 2 bolts then you will be able to check. You can get a forge one that I've seen but it's still a turbo off job.... I've been looking at recons or low mileage turbos

jaye2992:
You sort your problem out? Got mine sorted with a turbo change  :sad1:

im sure I read somewhere on the net but don't know for sure, these cars have a knock sensor which when faulty can reduce power etc or if its doing its job its there to save the engine if theres a problem, just an idea... worth looking into it.

YES !! O M G YES !!

Finally got this fixed on mine, there was no fault code/check light on generic tools, i did a scan with vagcom and it showed up knock sensor. I then confirmed this with a bluetooth odb11 tool and torque. She was pulling timings as the revs went up, but boost stayed high.

It's a nightmare to get to, i pray it's not the answer to yours....

Wahoo, I hope it's not to expensive for ya and not to much of a bugger to sort out, fingers crossed once it's replaced it will fix your problem :-)
