Does a new PCV reduce oil consumpion??

Morning all,

First of all mine is a 2006 GTI 49k, bog standard dsg model apart from 3" downpipe and sport cat.

Oil consumption is starting to annoy me. I know VW say that 1L in 1000mile is within tolerance but I find that hard to swallow. I am currently well within these "tolerances" at 500ml per 1000mile... still to much for my liking.

Has anyone seen reduced oil consumption when they have replaced their PCV??

I don't think mine is gone but apparently if it is it can cause excess oil consumption. I have yet to do the dipstick and oil cap quick tests. Will update when I do.

If it helps and my car passes the dip stick/ oil cap test then I might just upgrade it to the latest version anyway.

Many thanks,
Niall

My handbook states accepted oil consumption is 1L per 1000km (621 miles) if that makes your consumption more realistic?.

My user manual also states 1L per 1000km is within tolerances...

but... has anyone with the revised PCV noticed a reduction in their oil consumption?

Mate I own a 2011 mk6 gti edition 35 and it uses oil just like my old edition 30 did before that

I always thought it was normal as some do it straight from new, and vw seem very relaxed whenever I mention it and tell me it's normal for a performance engine lol

Never let me down either way just make sure you check it after any spirited drives you may do and if around town driving check every few days  :happy2:

Oh, so even the newer engines do it?

I had a 06 Focus ST before and it never used any between services, and I drove it spirited everywhere.

I'm just a bit concerned that it may be doing some long term damage.
