Update time:

So I’ve been slacking the last few weeks. Other jobs to do, sorting the workshop and working some friend’s cars has meant the Golf has been on the back burner.

Started to crack on again over the last few evenings. Finalised and finished off the new mounts for the TT rear arms to slot into, very happy how they have worked out, Still need the welds cleaning up and a final once over but so far so good. 3mm mild steel with internal supports means they aren’t going anywhere.

Still need to rebuild a small section of the inner wheel arch and bring it up to meet the new mounts.

Made the new subframe mount frame which will get tied into the rear of the roll cage. Unfortunately when it was welded it distorted so will have to remake this again and clamp it in a way to stop the heat from pulling it out of shape.

Set to work on beginning to get the front end ready to accept the jig.

Grotty looking engine bay

Removed the top of the strut mounts which will allow for the jig to sit in place and determine the new position. I will need build up and re make these. Also began to remove the raintray to make room for the top mounted turbo.

Bit cleaner, quite a few holes to weld up and would like to weld up any of the now redundant wiring loom holes and various other cut outs.

The worst piece of rot on the car! Someone unfortunately used a very ill-fitting exhaust in its previous life. This combined with a shagged engine mount meant it slowly worked its way through the firewall allowing water to then soak into the sound deadening and eventually rotting the metal from the inside out. Easy fix though as this is where the prop will run through along with the new down pipe.

That’s all for now.
