Not as common on the 02M/02Q/02D boxes, but it has happened  :smiley:  Was a big problem on the old 02A/02S.

You're right about ARBs with stiffer suspension.  The stiffer springs do the same job.  Personally I would refit the OEM ARBs again as that is what Bilstein and Ohlins tune their kits with  :happy2:   It will improve the ride quality on bumpy corners.

So far I can say that during the short time before I left the car at the workshop it drove really well and it turned even sharper than before. I have the smaller kit of the H&R ARB. I'll see later how the car handles and see if the upgraded ARB are an issue.  :smiley:

I avoid bumpy roads whenever possible to prevent wear on the suspension and on my back. :signLOL:

Decided to make a summary of the performance differences between the tunes. So current setup is this:

Mk5 Golf GTI Edition 30 DSG
RPM Power Engine Management Stage 2+ custom remap + DSG Stage 2 remap

Engine mods:
  • VW Racing cold air intake (VWR12G5GT)
  • Darkside Developments S3 uprated IC with alloy end tanks and silicone boost hoses
  • Go Fast Bits DV+
  • NGK Iridium BKR7EIX spark plugs
  • R8 red ignition coil pack set
  • LOBA's HPFP
  • RS4 fuel pressure regulator valve
  • CTS Turbo intake manifold runner flap delete kit
  • CTS Turbo throttle pipe
  • CTS Turbo turbo outlet pipe
  • Forge Motorsport oil catch tank system for vehicles with charcoal filter (FMMK5CTC)
  • Creations Motorsport Exhaust manifold heat shield
  • BCS Powervalve TBE Prestige system with 200 cell cat and wrapped DP
  • Vibra-Technics bottom engine mount/Subframe mount (VAG520M)
  • Vibra-Technics dogbone mount (VAG455B)
  • DSG remap



It has now made 367 BHP and 499 Nm/368 lbf*ft.

This is a graph comparing the WHP difference between the previous tune (red) with the CAI fitted and ~345 BHP with the current tune (blue) using BP Ultimate 98 octane.


It's now much faster at mid range rpm. :evilgrin:

Can't wait to get your opinion on the LSD. In my short 50 km test I think that was the only think working properly on my car.

Just test drove the car today! Started with a DSG reset and followed with the recommended circuit. The gearbox felt just as it was before, smooth and fast. Didn't get to test the LSD properly. Tomorrow it's going to be corner balanced and then a new wheel tracking to complete the suspension upgrade. :driver:

Yes, I'm going to be at wheel for everything and the gas tank at around half capacity. :smiley:

I will refit my VWR intake again soon to see if I can get similar gains to yours.  I have strong flex coupling in mind which might fit the VWR pipes.  No compensation for engine movement is the the main thing that put me off that intake.   On track, there will be a LOT of engine movement!

With the LSD, have you found the steering self centering strength improves?   You should now get less fuel cuts (traction control) when accelerating out of tight turns.

Well, after a few days driving the car with the LSD fitted I can say that it fulfils what I hoped for. It's no miracle solution for wheel spin and torque under steer but it helps so much. Without pushing the car I can't tell there's a LSD fitted. Wish the car had it fitted from factory. It's really a must have for +350 BHP, less if you track the car. Really pleased with it. :driver:

There's still more news to come. For now I still haven't finished the corner balancing. I'm doing it at a friend's garage free of charge. We're still learning the ropes on my car. His Lotus Exige was much easier to balance. :laugh:

That Honda tough  :signLOL: - had the pleasure to test one, even on a dump track was only less that 3 second slower than mine. Honda completelly stock, mine with all the mods on slicks.

I've driven that Type-R FK8 for a short and not that fast drive. It steers really well on roundabouts and tight corners. I've rode shotgun when testing against a stock 7.5R DSG. It gains at top end a bit. I don't like its aesthetics, though.  :smiley:
