Clutch for Stage 1+ edition 30??
JUNNYAK47:
Hi guys,
Im needing a new clutch for a stage 1+ edition 30. Iv been told that a stock clutch would handle the power, however also been told that an uprated clutch would be required. Im at 400lb ft and 330bhp. Experiencing lots of clutch slip however the car has done 75000miles and i dont think clutch has been changed before. Which route should I head down? stock, something like this: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Golf_2.0_2007/p/car-parts/car-transmission/clutch-and-associated-parts/clutch-kit/?641442390&1&d57b569e90e17a15e96dde257a502a002275a23e&000069
or uprated: http://www.awesomegti.com/car/vw/golfmk5/helix-clutch-kit-single-mass-flywheel-options-volkswagen-mk5-golf-2-0t-gti

400lb ft needs an uprated clutch. Get a Helix clutch from AKS tuning :happy2:
That's a lot of torque from only 330bhp :surprised: normally you need stage 2+ mods to get 400lbft
JUNNYAK47:
SO is 400lb ft good at stage 1? Iv got an ITG maxogen intake, cat back milltek, apr hpfp (stock one blew up on dyno) and apr remap. all done at awesome a couple of weeks ago. The car was running nearly 241bhp and 290lb ft stock. I'll give AKStuning a call in the morning.
GrayMK5GTI:
You've got good mods there, although if you got the torque figure on Awesome's dyno thay may explain why the torque is so high - their dyno has a reputation for being pretty accurate for the BHP figure, but a bit optimistic for the torque. :happy2:

Would love to see your torque curve!
Steer clear of single mass conversions.
As already said, get the Helix organic clutch + new dual mass FW. Clutch is £500, DMF is £255 and then labour on top. Not cheap, but there's no other option really. Yes a standard clutch will handle it, just, for the first half of it's life, and then it will slip again. With that much torque you'd be looking at 30-40k miles max, then it's going to need doing again.
