Car for work - budget £4k

The MK5 1.9tdi's (105ps) we used to have at my last workplace took some serious pain and kept going and going, and going...

They all did over 140,000 miles and drove like they didn't need anything in return. They move adequately if you give it death and the ones we had did 55mpg driven hard, 70mpg on a run was possible with a steady foot and unloaded car.

You must be able to get one of those for around £4k with reasonable mileage these days? (not checked myself)

GrayMK5GTI:
MK4 Golf TDI PD150 would be my choice. If your lucky, you can get an Anniversary edition for around £4k

Thanks mate, I'll keep an eye open for a good one but standard mk5s do nothing for me, I'd prefer a clean mk4 to be honest

Very nice cars, had a quick look for them on Auto Trader earlier and they are very rare. My uncle has just bought one in Wales and seems to have got a bargain, perhaps I can persuade him to sell it to me haha

Liam0205:
for an 02 plate, what would be people maximum mileage on a diesel they would go for
