Mk5 gti Misfire, blue smoke, fuel smell

Hi all just bought a mk5 gti of a friend. It's a 2005 AXX engined car that's covered 104k

I got it cheap as its misfiring. It's not long been into awesome gti and had £1200 worth of work including timing chain, oil pick up pipe and other bits an bats.

It's got a decent service history with it. Oil changed regularly etc

It's running a decat, k&n typhoon type induction kit and an unknown remap.

So the problem... It's misfiring constantly, cold or warm it does it and all the way throughout the whole rev range.

It's also smoking (blue smoke) strong smell of fuel when running, slight smell of fuel in oil when checking the dipstick.
I believe it's had a compression test done and cylinder 1 was down compares to the other cylinders.
I've not checked it myself YET, I'm not sure if they did wet and dry compression test?

At a guess I'm going with ring failure on cylinder 1 but obviously I won't no anything until I've got the head off.
If the rings have failed then what's the likely hood of me being able to just replace them? Has anyone on here had to do this? We're the cylinder bores ok?
I'm hopeing I don't have to start having the bores honed an new Pistons etc as it will probably work out cheaper to buy a used engine.

Anyone who's done this sort of job on one of these engines?

Any help would be great. Cheers

Forgot to add...

It's had 4 new coil packs. New plugs and new pcv. I wasn't there when the compression test was supposedly done. The lad I bought it off doesn't really have a clue when it comes to cars.

I will do my own compression test. Just ringing round friends to see who's got one

Mikeford1991:
Have u tried testing injectors

Dan_FR:
Theres an AXX engine for sale in the classifieds on here.

Ricky123:
Thanks, saw the engine for sale but I think £795 is abit much for one that covered 100k ish. I'm hopeing I can just replace the rings on mine but if not then if engines go for that sort of money then it might be cheaper to rebuild mine myself.

What rods and Pistons do most people use? I wouldn't be going for serious power but if the bores need honing then I'd have to go for slightly oversized Pistons.
