EGR not working?

(1/2) > >>

ReflexRob:
My 2005 GTI with 49k on the clock doesn't idle very smoothly,  the needle doesn't move but you can feel rough idling through the floor.

I removed the oil cap with the engine running and it made a gurgling noise but the engine still ran smooth.

Do I have EGR failure?

Ricky123:
I'm sure tfsi' don't have an egr??

Common poor idle faults can be pcv, coil pack, spark plug and even carbon build up on intake valves.

Is your engine management light on?

MrACD:
That usually would point to the PCV, probs needs replacing.  When I took out the oil dipstick (2 seconds) it started spluttering and running rough.  So if yours doesn't I look at getting that changed to start with  :happy2:

ReflexRob:
Cheers chaps - you are right I meant PCV, not EGR!  :rolleye:

Will check the dipstick method and post back.....

ReflexRob:
Ok,  pulled the dip stick.

Slight change in the way the car idled but no huge change....?
