Camshaft swap.. Any special tools needed?

Evening...

Starting the process of building my engine up on Friday, I've bought a complete BWA lump with a snapped cambelt to replace my nackered AXX.

Since the BWA head needs work (valves,guides etc) due to the cambelt miss hap im going to be running my AXX head on the BWA bottom end. The BWA cams that came with the engine are mint (40k miles)

I've read a few things about camshafts snapping and camshaft wear etc, am I right in thinking the BWA cams are stronger or better in some way to my AXX ones?
I was going to just put my head on as is but am I better off sticking the BWA camshafts in my head as I'm building it up?

If so then are there any special tools needed? Bear in mind both heads of are off and on a work bench. I've not taken the timing chain covers off yet.

I did read a timing chain replacement DIY thread and it said something about a camshaft tool? Is it just an m10 ribe key or spline socket? Or is it actually a VW special tool?

Any help would be great. Thanks

I stress quality in this case as I've see plenty problems due to poor fitting copy tools

Don't both engines have the same cams? If your axx intake cam is not foobared can i have it? Unless someone recommends i buy a new one.

I have these tools if u want to borrow them? The spline bit is original. The cam lock took is not. But a few members have used it with no problems.

Both my AXX cams are fine. I'm sure I remember reading something about the cams being weaker and snapping or something like.

Where are you based? If they are the same then I don't mind you having an intake came or if they are different then I'm happy to give you a cam in exchange for the use of tools.

Either way you can have an intake cam.
