My 2007 Tornado Red GTi - Cam follower 40k
« on: July 30, 2015, 12:47:58 am »
Just a new thread on my recent purchase.

2007 / Tornado Red / 5 door / 77k / FVWSH / Leather / parking sensors

Picked it up a few weeks ago.  In pretty good shape.

Needs: A polish / bonnet chips sorting / cambelt

I'm really happy with it. This will be my 5th Golf in a row - had a mk2 Driver, mk3 Driver, mk3 VR6, mk4 GTi.

To do this week:

Cambelt and water pump to be done on Friday

Also picking up a cam follower at the same time, hopefully changing it on Saturday.

Try and find a replacement headunit, or figure out how to add my active Alpine 8" sub to the RCD500.

Cambelt and water pump done.  £349 at a dealer.  They also threw in a bottle of G13 coolant.

Also picked up a new fuel pump cam follower.

Welcome! Looks a great car. I had a mk3 driver too - not a bad car to have back in the day when I was 21-22!
Would have loved a VR6 though...most must be quite rotted by now...
My mk5 is my third golf in a row - definitely the best car of the lot. Hope you enjoy yours!

I loved my Driver too, it was purple/mauve.

I do miss my VR6, I had it for about 8 years.  In the end it rusted away. I sold it for £400 to a woman who was going to drag race it!

The mk5 is the best of the lot, I agree.

Just ordered a new headunit.

Went for Kenwood DDX4015DAB.

http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/car/nav_mm/mm/DDX4015DAB/

Also ordered a Connect2 fitting kit after seeing @Adamski photo of his Pioneer using the kit.

My active Alpine SWE815 8" sub from my old car will also be fitted , and maybe, if I get the time, my old Alpine V12 4 channel amp to drive the fronts (also if it fits under the passenger seat)

Just changed the cam follower after reading about the issues with it.

Bolts for the fuel pump came off very easily - felt like it has been off before.  Anyway, old follower was fine, just a bit of wear.  Changed it anyway.  Took about half an hour in total.

Just waiting for my headunit to arrive next week.

Went about fitting my Kenwood headunit.
Went OK but I need to have another bash at it.  The connects2 fitting kit needs adjusting, as it doesn't sit flush with the centre console.

The fitting kit comes with a cage and some adjustable plates you fit to the headunit. I places thesse to get the HU as flush to the dash as possible, but it means the fascia is proud.  Just need to wind it back a bit.

Sound quality is different from the stock. I'd say for the better. Added bonus is that I now have iPod connection and Bluetooth.

Although the latest Kenwood, the user interface feel a little dated in the way it looks.

Hey

I recognise the car from the pictures, in fact I almost bought it (ended up with a 3 door red)!

Did you get the winter tyres with it too? Do you live in Warwickshire?

I didn't get the winter wheels as I didn't want them.  What put you off buying it? (fingers crossed I didn't miss anything when I viewed it!)
