Hindsight is amazing, but I should have had the EGR mapped out when I had a remap a few months ago as have had engine light come on with P0401 EGR insufficient flow code. Grrrr!!  :jumping:

Well, it’s starting to come together more and more…..starting to see the finish line now like!

Got the front springs mounted and then the shocker assembly added to the hubs. Then got them mounted in the car.

Couldn’t resist getting the front brakes on to see how they fit (and more importantly what I had all the right bits haha) - managed to scratch a bit paint off when trying to get the little pad cover in the front. Not sure if I have the wrong pads but I can’t seem to get it in, the bracket seems to have the slot too far back!

I’m sure it’ll become apparent at some point.

Also, if anyone needs any new Febi Rear arms, AutoDoc sent me two of each for some reason, just give me a shout and I’ll post them over to you!

Turbo coolant return hose, 06J121492C.

You can pick it up from either a k03 or a k04 as they are identical. Make sure you change the crush washers when you bolt the new one back onto the turbo. You can get it from any scrapper if they are willing to sell it. Not worth going new. Make sure you pay attention to how you mount it cause it sits crushed between the engine mount and the timing cover. Probably why it got damaged in the first place.

I realised it's been 100,000 miles nearly since I last changed my cam follower

The last time I did it was at 100k, I've I'm just coming up to the 200k mark so thought balls, I better get that done.

I've not done it myself before but it didn't look hard, and was simple enough!

Here's a photo of a 100,000 mile cam follower - definitely needed doing but still perfectly functioning

How to Guides / Troubleshooting / Re: S3 fuel pressure dropping on hard acceleration

Fuel filter is new 6.6bar one. Still having issues every so often on hard use, the low pressure measuring block 231 shows 5 ish bar not quite the 6.6 bar it should at idle so next port of call is a low pressure pump and controller if needed.

Hey all,

Now, please dont have a go at me, this was a bodge repair by a mechanic, i dont know why a replacement was not sourced / fitted.

According to ETKA this is the BWA DSG if this helps also.

Back story -

The right hand and lower engine mount failed on me on the motorway last year. The subsequent result was that the engine rested on the driveshafts and pierced the hose.
Engine had to be removed due to the bolts being sheared off on the right had side, and they needed to be extracted.

I know these probably are not great to help identify and this should have been done last year when i noticed, but the old girl has not been driven too much. Sad to say she is losing water and i know this to be the first place to rectify.

I have just spent 30mins in TPS trying to work out on ETKA what part number it is.

And no, i cant find an easily readable part number on this hose

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thank you

Making some excellent progress, it certainly sucks up the hours.

Not  far off fitting up the rear sub frame ?

I think my drivers rear sill will be the same when I finally get to that bit.

What a good idea a restoration club, never heard of that before .

Haha aye mate, it certainly does!

Yeah, the rust fed far worse than I initially expected but glad I got to it when I did.

Aye the restoration club is mint, it’s a charity that has been going since 1971. You pay a membership fee and have access to the facilities, there are bays, ramps, a machine shop, a paint cabinet, blast cabinet among others. There are loads of people in it and they all offer advice if you need it - https://www.northeastrestorationclub.co.uk/ thats the place if you wanna have a look

Yeah I had a good day at it yesterday, got both the front and rear subframes on, track rod ends, bottom arms, fitted up a couple of the rear arms, got the rear shockers on and a few other bits.

Pressed the rear hub bushes in, fitted the front bearings and also fitted all the new ABS sensors to the hubs.

However, I have realised that a few of the bits from autodoc are not correct, and I am missing some bolts too. The inner race of the rear wheel bearings are too big by like 2mm so they need swapping, and one of the front bearings is missing a bolt, so will need to get those sorted and I also missed off the rear swing arms 😂 so I’ve ordered those.

Feels good to finally start putting things back together!

Hopefully have those other bits sorted soon and then crack on with the rest!

Finally getting round to getting an update on here! Been away on holiday and had some time off with the boy over the school holidays so that car progress has slowed down…..but managed to get on with a few jobs, good news is that I think that I have everything there ready to start installing!

Main thing I have been doing is sorting ANOTHER rust section which I found on the drivers gate rear sill (same as the other side) but it actually turned out to be worse! I didn’t take a photo of it before but it honestly looked like nothing, but I ended up having to cut away this much:

So, made another patch panel and get it welded in, seam sealered, painted and stone chipped - it’s not the prettiest but it is solid and should last another 20 years!

Also cut off and made some new rear bumper supports as they were completely rotten

Next, I moved onto the rear brakes, I’ve not refurbed a set of calipers before but thought I’d give it a go since the car is off the road, they came out pretty well.

I’m a member of a restoration club here in the northeast where I have access to various bits of machinery, blasting cabinet being one of them, so stripped them all down and blasted them first:

Then bought a seal kit from big redd to replace all the seals, wasn’t too bad to do, main issue was I snapped one the lugs off the internal circlip so had to order some more which hindered progress!

Then painted them all up ready for assembly, they have came out pretty well, just hope they don’t leak haha!

Then moved onto replacing the outer CV joints, the driveshafts were fine but it was more the fact that they were rusty so it was cheaper to just replace the outers and paint the rusty bits 😂

Other things I’ve done, I got replacement front to rear brakelines from TPS but the fronts from ABS unit to arches are discontinued so had to make those, I only got a couple of photos of those though! I had to put a join in the one to the drivers side as getting it in without removing the engine was pretty much impossible without bending it all over!

Other than that I am hoping to start making much more progress as I could really do with it being back on the road! I cleaned and fitted the rear archliners and also gave the underside a coat of bilt hamber Dynax UC wax, just to make sure that it stays a silver as possible for as long as possible haha!

Until next time!
