I was chasing misfires recently. Had 2 air leaks, the upper pcv hose and the rear of the engines brake booster vacuum line.it was pretty lumpy on idle and threw codes but watching the misfires live I could see it only misfires on idle and ran fine under any load.
I changed my MAF first of all but made no difference, disconnecting it while running it still misfires but just le

Hi, New user here and also excited first time mk5 owner! I'#039ve just bought a 2007 with 64k on the clock. Car has stock halogen lights but I wanted to swap them for Bi-xenon. I have never done an upgrade like this before so have no clue where to start or look. Do I have to buy the units and then the kit with a harness adapter or is there a kit that comes with everything I need? nbsp My

Been using the Esso 99 since it came out maybe a couple of months back. Feels better to me than the Shell 99 stuff, and definitely more responsive than the regular fuel. Worth the extra to me as my standard MK5 GTI feels more powerful and get a few extra MPG with it. Tesco 99 is more expensive round my way and supposedly isn'#039t as good as the Esso and Shell.

Golf is in its MOT window so need to keep everything sweet - the ABS error seems to have calmed itself down and has not flashed up for a week or so - hopefully I only have the blown bulb warning to worry about - that pops up randomly with the Mk7 LED number plate lights.

To complete the overhaul, I still have Passat alloy hubs and new bearings to fit, bought new ABS sens

One thing to watch out with the H&R arbs is that they reuse the original mounting brackets on the front rather than supply their own. You can’t buy these separately new from VW and need to drill off the old ones. Mine cracked and came loose a couple of years later. For this reason, I would suggest a different brand like say Eibach.

Yes, I know all about them... Last session I went out on I had a Zafira GSI trying it's hardest to keep up with with me - it was very quick in the straights. But cheap brakes meant he'd kept setting fire to his pads!! So I just let him past. GOONS!!!

These are the OEM plugs, less the (considerable) VW tax - https://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/ngk-spark-plug-pfr7s8eg-1675

They last a LOT longer than those iridiums. nbsp Only the electrode on those is iridium, whereas the OEM plug has platinum on the electrode as well as the ground strap.

Liking these a lot, super rare and quick. Seen a manual R mk6, are there common faults to watch out for? Do they use the Edition 30 engine or mk7 r golf r?
Common faults are PCV failing, DV failing and HPFP Cam Follower wearing out. Same engine as the MK5/ED30, but with some mild tweaks,

I ran a compression test in my mk5 GTI (FSI) today as part of some troubleshooting I’ve been doing to track down an issue.
I got 125 across the board on all 4 cylinders. I did do some searching, and it seems that based on what other mk5 owners have posted, this seems a little low.

The oil pressure on these engines is well known to be weak at low rpm. nbsp The only specification from VW is '#03939psi @ 2000rpm'#039 which you'#039ve also found from some research.

Most tuners in Europe ditch the whole pump/balancer assembly and fit the pump from a 1.8T, but that goes hand-in-hand with a balancer shaft delete, which is essential on highly tuned engines with exten

Lots of microswitches built into the shifter - to me manual shifting just before it stops working suggests the problem may lie there - may be a switch stuck on/off and this alone telling the car to stop. It may unstick if you work the shifter back and forth in the manual shift.
Is manual shifting something you have done regularly before or is this a new thing you are just tryi

Hi all, Seeing if anyone is interested in my 3 door shadow blue GTI. It is a nice example of a standard car with no rust. I am not in any need to sell however it seems a shame as it has mostly been in storage this year due to other projects so I would let it go to another enthusiast. Details as follows:

Four Michelin PS4’s fitted on 6th January 2021. Full service carried out on 4th January 2021 including genuine VW cambelt and water pump, oil was replaced with Millers Nanodrive CfS 5w-40 NT+. Both rear brake calipers have been replaced with TRW OEM calipers. PCV and DV have been changed (GFB+ DV fitted). Currently on a private plate and this is not included. Lots of receipts and history with the car and fully stamped service book present. Fitted with full leather including armrest, and RNS510 with Bluetooth phone connection. I have just had the front arch liners out and all wheels off for a clean and seal ready for winter. 99k miles, manual.  £5750. Kent.

FSH from VW until 84k miles by previous owners and then Vw and VW specialist in my ownership up to current 160k miles. It has had an oil service approx every 10k miles or 12months. 19 services in total with stamps in the book plus I have kept all my paperwork from 2014. Before COVID I had a 55 mile commute so was having 10k mile services every 9 months. Services as follows;

Thousands spent mechanically:
new suspension at 143k miles in May 2019 as above with all new stretch bolts, new trailing arms/bushes rear and consol bushes front and wheel alignment,
inlet & injector clean and full engine health check by Rtec in August 2020.
New cam belt at the same time (which was previously done at 80k and 120k miles so in line with vw recommendation).
New cam chain, tensioner, vvt cover and sum clean by VHub 2019.

Other work carried out; Driver window motor, abs module, rear brake disc heat shields, pcv valve, diverted valve, cam follower, brakes, bonnet latch, cam shaft position sensor, several pipes/hoses as and when they became brittle, CV boots, drop links, roll bar links, thermostat, Carbon clean, Central locking on drivers door, new windscreen.

Bad bits - I’m sharing this info to be honest and because I’m a gti enthusiast and hope that a likeminded person buying will appreciate that knowing these things is better than not which is more likely if buying from trade or non-enthusiast private owner. These points are mainly cosmetic and what I planned to do next if I weren’t selling, and are reflected in the price. I’ve had quotes for as little as £600 to fix the bodywork which isn’t much compared to the thousands spent elsewhere on maintenance. I’m not a mechanic so it’s sold as seen with no guarantees.
- Bodywork is clean but usual rust appearing on arches, sills and boot lid. Some stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet. Some rust on the underside components like sub frame which is common for many vws.
- Air con works but the compressor is original so may need replacing in due course. The motors/actuators within the dashboard which move the air to different vents in the cabin make a noise.
- interior trim has some wear and tear like the gearstick gaitor, but the seats are in very good condition.
- it had a new battery about 4 years ago but think it needs a new one since I’ve only done approx 1000 miles in 2 years due to COVID so it’s been garaged for that time on a trickle charger.
- rear near side outer tail light can fog up if is persistent rain.
