Have you got a link to the one on eBay? Also what's with the different numbers on the high line ones do they have different features or something?

These steering wheel controls do loads of stuff, but here's what you need to know for MFSW:
The highline ones are the only ones that support LIN (the communication from the MFSW) and the RED display on the clocks (mk5) is LIN 1.3 and the white display (mk6) is LIN 2.0. This is what makes the CH version good, because it supports both versions.
You can choose any highline LIN 1.3 module from the ross-tech page.
It'll need coding and the steering angle sensor sorting once it's installed. You dont need to take the steering wheel off to install it
Edit: You also need to check if you've got a steering angle sensor and get a controller to match that

^^ THIS.
It is easier if you remove the steering wheel because the T8 torx bit will be harder to get to if steering wheel still on.
YouTube mk5 golf multifunction steering wheel. You will see a video I made on how to swap it over.

Right orders the ch controller and fitted it. Only thing now is coding anyone know the coding for this? When I turned the engine on the speedo needles didn't move and no lights shown on the dash too. Also the steering wheel controls lights stayed on. Hopefully coding it should sort it out.

You need to code the module with VCDS before you can do anything. They can't code them before they send because they're quite specific to your model (DSG, stalks, steering angle, wheel, etc). I expect it's setup for a mk6 golf with DSG before sending to you.
Where abouts are you?

I'm in Essex, you might have to find someone local. There's a register for VCDS owners on the site somewhere

Right got my mate to code the wheel and having a problem. The left buttons works and the right buttons the menu one doesn't do anything. The other 3 buttons work tho. Is there something to get that button working too. I'm sat in my car with vagcom at the minute.
Vol up = Works great.
Vol Down = Works great.
Star = Mutes sound.
Phone = Opens Bluetooth on my head unit
Right buttons do the following:
Menu Button = does nothing.
Ok button = Works great.
Up arrow = Cicles up on the cluster displaying MPG etc.
Down arrow = Cicles down on the cluster displaying MPG etc.

If you have a highline cluster, its supposed to toggle through the menus with that button. If its not working theb using vcds go into instruments, adaptation and do a reset on channel 0. Turn car off, lock it, leave for 15 minutes and then start car again and it should work.

Mine did the same thing when I first coded it. I just left it to the next day and it started working.
Another handy shortcut: If you're not on the vehicle info screen you can hold up arrow to go back to it. I quite often switch to radio by pressing menu, then quickly back to info by holding up.

I'll try that. I've got a high line cluster and can access the menu using her stalk on the right hand side.

Those are the lights you get when you disconnect the battery, just driving makes them clear normally.
If it doesn't clear you might have to do the steering angle adaption (like when you first installed the controller)
-
Sorted the lights out. All controls working okay just the stupid menu button not working.

Just jumping in here to send a big shoutout to @RetroRaz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6494) :happy2:
I used your YouTube video to great effect when I was retrofitting a MFSW to my MK5
Thanks a million for the video buddy :happy2:

No worries buddy. YouTube recently disabled the video due to some racism being thrown at me for no reason. But it can be enabled again.

I think I’ve figured out I need a ch module to match highline cluster, mfsw & cc as my AF module is midline. Do I need the separate harness? (5K0971584C)

You will if it didn't come with the MFSW and you don't have DSG

I believe that part number is for the mark 6. The part you need is 1K0971584C.

I believe that part number is for the mark 6. The part you need is 1K0971584C.
It works in the Mk5 as well. Its essentially a cross over that supports both LIN 1.3 & 2.0 and so is used when retrofitting later steering wheels but believe it still works with the Mk5 MFSW etc.

It definitely does not fit, and I've got a mk6 harness if you'd like it for the cost of postage if you want to try it!

Apologies, I thought you were talking about the SWCM, not the harness. Ignore me!

Ah, yep. That CH module is the magic one that's cheap from china and supports highline mk5 and mk6. Defo need the Mk5 harness though, the connector plug for the MFSW controller doesn't quite reach!
