Title: New CCM or 2nd hand?
Post by: jgalla89 on October 04, 2019, 03:45:39 pm
Following on from this thread https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,120935.0.html the garage have just called to say they have found the problem. The Gateway control module (also know as CCM?) is full of water. have got a leak somewhere. they think the drain behind scuttle pan has been blocked..

Now the car is totally dead so I need to try and source a new part, they will get the cost of a new one for me but I was wondering wuld a second hand one be ok?

The electrician said a second hand or new one not coded to my car may get it to run but would need taken somewhere to be coded straight away.

Think I'm getting mixed up, this isn't the CCM, this is the can bus gateway?

Also looking at second hand ones on eBay struggling to find a code that matches exactly (1K907530K) do they need to be exactly the same?

CCM is 'Comfort Control Module' and controls things like the leccy window, central locking, interior illumination, bulb checking system and all that jazz.

From your description it does sound like the CAN Gateway.  Have a poke around in the pedal box area to see if it's wet around there.  The CAN Gateway lives above the pedals and is an absolute pain in the hoop to access from down there.  The easiest way to hoik it out is via the access panel in scuttle area.  The wipers need to come out to get at it.  I'll see if I can find some pics.  Sounds like said panel is leaking on yours.  It has a rubber seal which may have perished, or been accessed previously and not put back properly.

You don't need the exact same gateway, but the replacement one will likely need coding, which can be done with VAG-COM.  It's just stores a list of model specific 'features' and designations, and options.  The relevant ones for your car need to be enabled otherwise sh*t don't work, putting it bluntly!

It is the gateway, I was getting the two mixed up. Garage are going to look at where the leak is coming from. They have taken the gateway out and its all bubbled and corroded from the water.

They have got a price for a new one, £238! I've found this on eBay http://tiny.cc/wjdydz which matches my part number. A lot cheaper!

Only issue I have car won't run now and is stuck there and they can't code it. I may have to get it towed to someone who can. I doubt VW will code a second hand part but I do also have a Nottingham based VW specialist who can code it

Ah OK, did they check this area for leaks, otherwise the new one might go the same way?  Shame you're not local to me otherwise I could have done it for you.  Have a look at the VAG-COM thread as someone near Nottingham might have a cable.

Ive asked them to locate the leak so it doesn't repeat itself, they did say the box the module was in was full of water so I'm hoping they look in that area. Good plan thanks I'll take a look and see if someone is local. Failing that I'll get it towed to a VW specialist I know of.

OK, good luck.  That is only way water to get into the gateway, so it sounds like the seal on your access panel is compromised.  Hopefully that sorted it.
