Going to try to arrange some a ticket offer for forum member this year too :happy2:
-
Nice one Steve, a guy I know in Stratford is driving in this series, he owns the local Subaru dealership so you can guess what he is driving. :happy2:
-
Ill be able to make some of these hopefully. :happy2:
-
Peanut and I got to spend some time with the owner of this car during our trip to the Nurburgring recently so will be watching this one with interest, here's some pics from a shake down at Bedford this weekend. It's his first full year in the Club 4WD Class

Strange exhaust setup on that gtr
Lets hope that one doesn't get stacked!
-
Good man Steve.
Ive watched this, its phenomenal. Shot gun first set of free tickets :innocent:
The only issue being your car will actually seem lightly modified lol.
Are we expecting to see some sponsorship decals then?
-
Strange exhaust setup on that gtr
Lets hope that one doesn't get stacked!
That is strange.

Why would they point all 4 exhausts to the right handside of the car??
-
wasn't it the time attack series a few of us went to at Oulton a a couple of years back???? was a good day, bit cold, but some really quick cars

I dont think quick justifies some of the cars. Some are absolutely mental!!
Is the Club Fwd getting any bigger. When i last went, it was an alfas which werent especially quick, a couple minis and a astra VXR that was eons faster than all the others in the class.
Just checked. The astra vxr was driven by a guy called bo nielson, he has a build thread somewhere. Quite an interesting read.

The exhausts are just for Bedford due to noise restrictions :happy2:

Ahh.. :happy2:

I was going to joke about that. Crafty but clever :happy2:
All going well some of us should know someone who is planning to build a car to compete :popcornsoda:
-
Can I enter the Czech Dream Machine? :pomppomp:
-
This is the current FWD champs build thread. http://www.vxronline.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?78127-Time-Attack-Project (http://www.vxronline.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?78127-Time-Attack-Project) Think hes at around 360Hp, so ower wise, Steve should annihilate him.
Good news though steve, last year there was a controlled tyre, Pirelli P Zero iirc, which would have been a nightmare with your power id imagine, but this year they are leaving it open with only a few caveats
[pdf]http://www.timeattack.co.uk/downloads/Tyre%20choices%20for%20the%202012%20Time%20Attack%20Championship.pdf[/pdf]
So i think its any tyre within the MSA 1B category for dry, but must be 1B for wet
[pdf]http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/11/191-200%20Permitted%20Tyres.pdf[/pdf]
Im presuming you would enter the club class?
-
^^^ If I was to make a one off appearance this year then it would be in the FWD Club Class running on Dunlop Direzza DZ03G tyres
-
so you can just tip up as a one off then?
Will your car be sporting any stickers...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.worldtimeattack.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2011%2F07%2Fapr-golf-567x378.jpg&hash=d97b63a61d66617707de1a747771bb4a2b300c7f)
That one is from the world time attack series
-
Yes it possible to do a one off event, haven't got as far as even thinking about livery yet, got to get a working car back up and running first
-
What you need to do is choose a track near you, probably snetterton id guess, then get as many trackdays as you can in there before, then turn up on race day as an unknown and top the boards
Get a white race suit and helmet as well
-
What's the format of these? Is it standing start and lap best time wins or flying lap?
I've looked but there doesn't seem to be much info regarding the actual format. :ashamed:
-
best flying lap.
its a really good day out,
-
So what happens on the day of a Time Attack event?
When you arrive at the venue you will have a pre determined allocated garage or paddock area to park within, more often than not access is available to the venue on the night before the event or from around 07.30 on the morning of the event. Once you have arrived at the circuit you can unload your vehicle, tools and get comfortable in your area in readiness for the morning scrutineering, sign on, transponder fitment, noise testing and drivers briefing.
Scrutineering is in-situ and once your vehicle and your apparel has been checked by an official and you have received your scrutineering card you head to the Race Control administration office where you sign on and receive your competitor wristband - plus a maximum of four extra wristbands for your Team personnel which allows them access to the garages and pit lane/pit wall.
Lastly is the driver briefing, this is the final part before you go on track and here you are told all you need to know about the day’s events and any relevant safety issues – all drivers must attend the driver briefing(s).
The on-track element of a Time Attack event consists of four sessions:
Warm Up - 15 minutes, Practice - 20 minutes, Qualifying - 20 minutes and the Final - 15 minutes. The session(s) timings may vary but the Final will always be 15 minutes.
Warm Up – is always untimed as it is the time when you familiarise yourself with the circuit and ensure you and your vehicle are competition ready.
Practice – this is where you start to lay down some fast times and see exactly where you are within your class.
Qualifying – is exactly that, if you want to go through to the Final you must make your times count in this session. Some events allow all drivers within a Class through to the Final and this is confirmed with drivers in the morning briefing. For 2011 points are also awarded for qualifying in each class as follows: 1st 10 points, 2nd 9 points through to 1 point for 10th.
The Final – where the pressure is on with even more points (and trophies) at stake for you to achieve towards your 2011 Championship points table, points are awarded as follows: 1st 100 points, 2nd 90 points through to 10 points for 10th position.
Other elements of the day:
1. All sessions are open pit lane
2. Sessions are started from the pit lane with drivers being queued 10 minutes prior to their session(s) starting. Sessions end with a chequered flag on the start finish line
3. Timing sheets are available roughly 5 minutes after each session in Race Control/Administration
4. A safety car may be used in Practice, Qualifying and the Final. Drivers must follow the Safety Car back into the pits if they see it on track.
5. If a session is stopped for any reason the timekeepers may stop the session clock and all drivers return to pit lane where they queue again in readiness for the restart of the session. In some circumstances the session(s) may be cut short.
6. In all sessions drivers may complete as many or as little amount of laps as they wish.
7. Live timings for all sessions are available within the garages and on a live feed on the Time Attack website
8. Trophies are awarded in all classes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions and at the end of the year Championship trophies are awarded.
9. All Time Attack events are maximum 105db unless stated.
Below is an example competitor timetable from one of our previous events:
07.30 to 09.30 Scrutineering
07.30 to 09.30 Sign On
08.15 to 08.45 Club Challenge Briefing
08.45 to 09.15 Pro Briefing
09.30 to 09.45 Club Challenge Warm Up
09.55 to 10.10 Pro Warm Up
11.30 to 11.50 Club Challenge Practice
12.00 to 12.20 Pro Practice
13.00 to 14.00 Lunch Break
14.00 to 14.20 Club Challenge Qualifying
14.40 to 15.00 Pro Qualifying
16.00 to 16.15 Club Challenge Final
16.25 to 16.40 Pro Final
17.00 Trophy Presentations
The above timetable does not show other on-track elements that we have within the day.
I hope the above has given you an insight into how a day at a Time Attack event is ran and hopefully we get to see you at one of our events as a competitor or team member, keep an eye on event news for all dates (and show details) and come along to chat with one of the Time Attack team if you are interested in getting involved.

Used to love going to this series.
Might go to snetterton later in year as want to see the RCMS Gobstopper 2 in action!
-
Yes it possible to do a one off event, haven't got as far as even thinking about livery yet, got to get a working car back up and running first
You'll need to get a race licence also Steve as the series is MSA sanctioned now.
Or have you got this already?
-
I think the new Roger Clarke Motorsport scooby "Gobstopper #2" is going to turn a few heads this year, I managed to get a vip tour during its develpoment a few weeks ago and all I can say is Fecking AWESOME!!! Ollie Clarke was trying to convince be to get my mk4 GTI in the the clubman class... too many bends for me.... :driver: I will stick to the straight line races at pod
This is what the old Gobstopper #1 could do

For the Club Classes a MSA National B ‘Non Race’ Licence is needed which can be issued at the event

Oh yes :pomppomp:
-
Are you any closer to competing in this yet Steve?
-
^^^ Nope Cadwell was my preferred choice for a OHW as it most suited the Golf and the car wasn't fixed in time, so going to focus on some major changes to get the car right again this year and maybe reconsider for next year.
I will be at all the event this year anyway helping with the Milltek Team GTR car :happy2:
-
Whats OHW?
-
One Hit Wonder :happy2:
-
How was the Cadwell event today? Busy? People happier with the tyre choices this year?
Might try and get to the Snetterton round later this year
-
Cadwell was Saturday.
Yep the more open tyre choice has made people happier this year for sure :happy2:
Was a good event apart from the freezing wind and rain
-
Round 2 on Sunday at Knockhill :jumpmove: :jumpmove:
The Scottish weather isn't looking the best (what a surprise) but it should a good day with a busy time table including Pick-up truck racing :roll eye:
I will be there with the Milltek GT-R so if anyone is around pop along and say hello, we will be sheltering by the Redbrick Racing truck we have for the weekend in Paddock 2

And you won't be able to miss the car: -

-
Or you stood behind it :signLOL:
-
They find out what the issue was with the gearbox in the GTR?
That Robin Duxbridge of Redbrick Racing sure has a lot of toys. You seen their Evo? Proper bit of kit that!
Hope the RCMS Gobstopper is out to play again. :happy2:
-
Not exactly just know that when changing from 3rd to 4th it shat itself in a big way :scared: :scared:
Been up to Redbrick and they sure have a lot of toys, the World TA Evo they built is a lovely bit of kit :happy2:
-
This GTR isn't the SVM "Hulk" is it? Just a customer copy of it in same colour??
-
It was originally wrapped by SVM as part of them doing the engine build so is the same colour :happy2:
-
Congrats on the class win by Richard today. :happy2:

That's the man.. Just at his house watching the footy now. He can certainly drive alright.. I've got a few pairs of skidded boxer shorts to prove it... Lol
-
Vid of his fastest lap here..
-
Doh!
-
That was crazy crash. :chicken: Looks like he missed his braking point and panicked because it was about 130MPH.
Think i might of as well.
-
Official line is a rear brake caliper seized.
-
Sounds feasible. :happy2:
