Just purchased a black edition 30 today :)
52k miles
DSG
heated half leather seats
Stainless steel exhaust

Just got home and picked a manhoosive bolt up in my back tyre which was ticking away when I got home. Very annoying.
It has avons on all way round but they'll be coming off anyway tomorrow as they are crap and very noisy :)

Can't wait to get stuck in and make it my own.

The plan is:
R tech stage 1+
Xenon headlights
R32 rear (possibly)
Gti seat inserts
Black hazard button
kW coilovers
ALK

I may upgrade the stereo but if I can get the iPod connection in the armrest working with my iphone then I don't think I'll bother for a while :)
Pics to follow

What do I need to get this thing working with my iphone 5?
Is there an oem adapter lead for it and will it charge at the same time?

I can delete this off my saved cars on AutoTrader then! Looks great mate

Think you'll need an mdi kit to get decent functionality with an iPhone 5

If you look in the traders section there are usually some people selling the kits. You've got the iPod kit in the armrest but I found mine never worked at all!

My dad owns a tyre garage mate we've been going over 25 years and I've worked there since the day I left school so we buy at very good prices. Thanks for the help anyway though :)

Best coilovers and ALK?
Heard mixed opinions on kW's.
I think I'm going to go for h and r springs or bilstein suspension of some sort but havnt looked into them yet.

Got new wax and polish coming this week so will have a proper clean at the weekend weather dependant
Still waiting for evoms to be delivered aswell as seat inserts and a few other bits.

May take her off the road this weekend and paint all the calipers whilst getting the wheels powder coated.

Yeh the pics don't do it justice!
Fitted black caps in engine bay and evoms intake tonight.
Lost a lot of power low down in the rev range but it's an animal after 5000 revs now!
Think I'm gunna get a decat downpipe after payday (Friday) then get myself to r tech. Can't wait any longer

Downpipe has arrived :)
Ordered an r32 rear bumper replica of fleabay
Ringing nige tomora to splash out on a r32 style bcs cat back

Next up I've seen a nqsbbk for sake on the forum, so trying to do some research on them, next month my money was going on some bilstein b12 or b14 but since seeing the 2nd hand brake kit that I will probs need my money might go there first!

eBay decat downpipe has arrived :)
Ordered:
Ngk iridium plugs
5w40 millers nano drive
Oil filter
Pollen filter
Fuel filter
Will service it next week just need to get booked in somewhere for dsg service!

Also ordered a r32 rear valance replica and treated myself to a bcs cat back system (r32 style)
Unsure on wheel colour grey or silver and dunno if I should leave the exhaust cut out on the r32 rear plastic or spray it a gunmetal colour.
Not a fan of doing it black on a black car as I think a different colour makes it stand out more :)

Thought you had to have vagcom to do it?
Title: Re: Mitch's DSG ED30

If you don't have vagcom some people measure and refill the same amount. But the money you save on DIYing it will cover the cost of investing in a vagcom cable.

Got my bumper back off my mate today :) looks great black with nissan KAE grey lower valance (exhaust surround). He also smoothed the toweye cover out, what a legend :) it looks awesome! Thanks mate! I really can not wait haha
Was going to do the lipstick the same grey but since doing the calipers it really all ties in well. Gunna look great :) front bumper needs paint at some point as it has a lot of pebble rash on the splitter thinking about doing the centre splitter in KAE grey but unsure. Be a whole before I do the front bumper so might do a few photoshops

Mods on hold.. Having Mechatronics problems :(
Driving along in auto car went to downshift and lost all drive and PNRDS lights started flashing, pulled over turned car off and on again and everything back to normal. 5 mile down road used all gears everything fine. Then changing from 5th to 6th same thing happened again and engine management light on aswell. Car recovered home and diagnostic plugged on. (Car still drives as normal again but engine management light on and few codes stored too)

Got this same code stored 3 times..
18115 - interference in Mechatronic module

Also have
p0441 - tank venting system incorrect flow
(Not sure if this is related I had just filled right up ready for a long drive to a car show but sadly never made it :( )

P1624 - malfunction indication lamp
(Think this is just to get me to plug on to find the transmission fault codes?)

From what I've read it's going to be the Mechatronics,
Car is going to a transmission garage tomorrow.
Probs gunna be new Mechatronics or send the old one to ecutesting?
Not cheap either way :(

Ouch, flashing shift lights sounds like mechatronics unit, I had mine changed under warranty thankfully.

Some have posted about those symptoms being a selector issue, rather than mechatronics. A good search should bring up some info.

Which replica bumper did you buy? I bought one from eBay a couple of weeks ago and fitment wasn't fantastic - have you test fitted the one you've got?

Have you had Tom's brakes off him yet? It's a decent setup for the money :happy2:

No mate was going to but couldn't be bothered when it arrived so it went straight for paint lol
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=181724729550  it's this one.
My friend who is a painter said it looks really good quality tbh. But that doesn't mean it's going to fit well lol we shall see!
And no mate was going to get them tomora (payday) but with the Mechatronics going faulty all my pennies are going there for next 2 month :(

That said, I was in a rush and I hadn't put the arch liner screws back in so they might pull it to where it needs to be. Mine in the body shop this week getting it painted up anyway, because I reckon I'll be able to get it to fit properly.

Also did you experience any clunking/jerking before it went?

Yeah, I'll keep you updated with the bumper. Need to get an exhaust made up though so it'll have to wait until I can have time off work when I don't need the car.

Feel for you with the gearbox, would it not be cheaper to source a second hand one?

I don't fancy buying a 2nd hand one mate just Incase there's a problem there would rather just bite the bullet and get it sorted so Iknow everything is 100%

Little update...
Dsg hopefully sorted. I was on holiday whilst my dad got it to a mates garage so don't know the ins and outs but from what I've been told by my dad.

There was a little bit of water in the gearbox oil caused by a faulty gearbox oil cooler and when I went on a long run on a hot day the moisture got into the Mechatronics unit and shortened circuits out giving me the interference in Mechatronics module fault code.
First they updated software and did basic settings and let my dad put a 100 mile on my car, this to see if the Mechatronics had ad it or not.
100 miles passed trouble free, so they changed the lol cooler for new genuine part and changed the gearbox oil and filter.

Cost me £160 all in although I have him a few drinks on top of that because he sorted me out do quick and picked the car up from my place for free.
Done about 300 mile since worry free.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fl630%2Fmitchhicken%2F1DE546F1-4A5F-4ED1-B60B-35D0DA059119_zpsxffqf4gb.jpg&hash=bac373267822b5eebe3a4e129f8f284f7a0056e0)
So back to the good bits..
Today fitted my r32 rear bumper (eBay special) and my full TBE consisting off eBay decat downpipe (other then the bracket behind the flexi this was good quality can not complain, just had to trim the hangers on the bracket and heat them up and bend down slightly)
Behind that was a bcs sports system with the r32 style exit. Superb quality and was fitted in no time worry free :D

I think it looks a lot better from the rear now although I'm gunna try and get the tips slightly higher. (Metal in the way) may heat it up and bend up slightly so In future if need be I could heat up and bend back down. Don't wanna start cutting it up!
Glad I went with the grey and smoothed the tow eye cover out too.

It sounds awesome! Can not wait for r tech map now to put it all together. Think I will eventually spray the front bumper and have the centre splitter done in the same grey.

Aswell as that I removed my stereo to get the code as I had no stereo since they changed the oil cooler, and finally fitted my cherry fed hazard switch whilst I was there :) great little mod this.

Not really mate it was worse before with original cat and a cheap proflow cat back system what previous owner had fitted.
It is loud but not droney or boy racer it sounds like a proper car now! Haha
It's a bcs sport system they do a sport prestige system which is quieter I think.
And if you want to keep it really oem sounding when driving normally there power valve will give you what you want (Y) look them up mate!

And no videos I don't have a camera only iphone which can't pick the sound up really. I'm from Doncaster in Yorkshire mate :)

How did you manage to sort the exhaust tips?
Some heavy duty rubber to hold it stiff so I could get it close to the bumper without it actually hitting the bumper.
Heating the brackets up and bending them.
And the little but of metal that was in the way I just pushed up, once I took the tips off I realised it was only like tin so just pushed it up to give more room for the zaust.
Really happy with it now may look into different tips as these are a pain to keep clean and looking good but suspect they're all the same

Well not much as happened recently all funds going to r tech on the 16th if September! Can't wait..
Havnt driven the car in 2 weeks took it off the road to give it a machine polish. Was getting nowhere with hex logic pads and chemical guys polished so got a sample kit of 3m and used there pads and paint is looking a lot better!
All polished just need to wax/seal/dress and whatever else then do the inside lol.

Invested in some snow foam and a lance to try n keep the nasty swirl marks away too (great fun)

Cleaned the postbox whilst I was at it.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fl630%2Fmitchhicken%2F5E03944B-69CB-4306-9384-A206D27CC1CA_zpsd3vgyeaq.jpg&hash=81046daf846149decc0f570606f4538aa760f847)

Video of progress during polishing on my stonechipped bonnet :) still not perfect but hell of a lot better, I did plan on paying a professional but it isn't a show car and it does get driven so I wouldn't be able to maintain a finish any better than what I could achieve myself with a machine polisher I don't think so I put the effort in this week!

And a reflection shot (no filters, iphone pic  :happy2: ) with my brothers classic mini :) (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fl630%2Fmitchhicken%2FDBF1246C-BE00-40F5-84F1-6258702A8B6E_zpsz8wtbvsq.jpg&hash=ad8836550e00bd1e0bbe859b876ffb54e49be8b9)
I've finished the dewiper, added edition 30 front badge, and my mate who has a mk5 golf reversed into a pole and ruined his rear bumper and cracked his inner n/s/r light unit. So me being the vulture I am asked for his cracked light unit so I could do the fog light lens mod (make the rear symmetrical) so that's up next :D

Yes all 3 polishes mate and green yellow and blue I think it was. Same colours as the 3 main polishes. They use a colour coded system which is pretty idiot proof which is quite good tbh.
Was different class to the chemical guys polish I was using. Just buy the sample kit you get plenty of polish in it unless your one to machine polish your car very often. (I don't have the time personally) and tbh if you use correct methods when washing you shouldn't need to machine polish your car more than 2 times a year IMO
But depends what sort of finish you Intend to maintain

@white91 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=13025)  I've no idea the previous owner had fitted them. They look great but the road output is pretty pants IMO unless all mk5 with standard reflector lights have poor light output like I do.

Small update:
My mate replaced his cracked light unit after reversing into a post and dropped me his old one off.
Done the double reverse light/fog light lens delete whatever you want to call it mod for the symmetrical rear look.
Pleased with it, it's only a tiny mod which most wouldn't notice but it's these little things that make a nice car IMO :)

Good luck with R-Tech; I've heard great things and planned on taking my TDI in at the end of the month but probably going to have to wait a little while now until the bank balance looks a little better. :driver:

The more I look at it the happier I am that I did it! Sounds mad over a little lens lol but does look loads better should be like it from factory.
I can't wait till r tech! Haha I really need some brakes to go with the map but my crappy van needs taxing at end of the month and then it's saving for Xmas :(

Nice work on the lens swap - I have this to do on mine, just to even the rear up. As you say, it's the small things that add to the overall look.

I'm always in two minds making any changes to the exterior of the car, as it is great from the factory, but something subtle like that is only noticeable to us dub geeks!

wind deflectors, mfsw buttons and touareg 4 pot brakes to fit in the next week :)

I want a SALK and a torque bush insert aswell but xmas is fast approaching which costs a fortune :(

Added a Salk to the car tonight aswell as a superpro torque bush insert and some 15mm spacers for the rear as I moved my others to the front to clear my Touareg 4 pots :)

The brakes are awesome and getting better with everything bedding in! Feels like completely different car just having the confidence to give it a blast when I want too!

Only done 8 mile since fitting the superpro bits tonight but the Salk makes a massive difference' havnt had chance to give it a blast in the corners but I have traction in 2nd gear again! Grip is tons better it was damp tonight on my way home from work and only Tryed the power once but didn't spin at all in 2nd gear.

IMO a Salk is a must even with a stage 1 map. It's great having lots of power but it's putting on the road!
Updated spec list sort of thing since my ownership :)

Interior:
Cherry red hazard switch
MFSW buttons
Gti seat inserts
Rcd 510 with usb switch

Exterior:
Smooth us front grill
Open fog grills
Powdercoated pescaras anthracite
R32 rear bumper (smoothed tow eye and exhaust valance in KAE grey)
Polo aerial
Wind deflectors
Colour coded rear badge baseplate
Debadged rear gti badge
Double reverse light lens mod
Dewiper rear
Edition 30 front grill badge

Performance/chassis:
Evoms intake
Decat downpipe
Bcs sports system (r32 exit)
R tech stage 2 remap
R tech DSG remap
Audi r8 coilpacks
Touareg 4 pot brembo calipers with 330mm drilled and grooved discs
15mm front + rear spacers
SALK
Superpro Torque bush insert

Maintenance:
Full service (nano drive 5/40)
4 x Michelin PS3
Dsg service + oil cooler

Still got my mfsw buttons to fit aswell :happy2:

Didn't change the arms just the Salk and torque bush insert mate. The torque bush is just to protect the flex I on the downpipe havnt noticed any difference in gear change although I've only done 10 miles max in the car since.

They are both very easy to fit. I have a ramp and air guns so it took me around 5 mins start to finish but easy diy for anyone with a brain IMO!
And yes you will need wheel alignment after! :)

Great work mate! :congrats:

And the SALK really surprised me too when I fitted it the first time in my GT Sport. For me any mk5/6 Golf should have it.
Yeh it's a known weak spot on these and the polo/fabia base too, but I still wasn't expecting such a big improvement!
Traction is so much better now! And that was on damp roads, havnt really tested it in the twisties as it was dark and wet but can't wait to push it abit :)

Just coilovers or h and r springs now and the car should feel perfectly balanced! Think I'll be tempted to save my penny's for a hpfp and intercooler then

I have no idea mate havnt looked into it yet as it will be well into 2016 before I have the funds as I have a mortgage to pay! lol
I think the peron gets good reviews and for good value I keep seeing 'wellycooler' pop up and I think r tech have started supplying them too but like I said I havnt done my research so cant really give advice

I didn't realise i had been watching your thread lol. Lovely car i regret selling the bbs wheels.

Sounds like i have the same dsg problems you had aswell. Only problem i have i have no codes up.

How much did it all end up costing you for the r32 rear bumper etc if you don't mind me asking.

Think r32 bumper was 150 ish (just lower half replica off eBay) 100 for smooth and paint. And exhaust was pricey cos I went all out and got cat back bcs but if you want to do it cheaper you could just do a backbox delete and get a y pipe made up at any custom exhaust place :)
Easy doable for 350 all in

Just gave the car another service tonight. Screw in the fuel filter housing had rotted away so had to drill it out and replace. Bit annoying but nothing major. Whilst waiting for oil to drain I went round everything with wire brushes and greased so I shouldn't have any issues again :)

Just ordered tonight and to be fitted at the weekend aswell as heat wrap the evoms cai
R tech twin heat shield
R tech full pcv delete

Andy at r tech development has been really helpful and honest in what I need to buy to achieve what I want to rather than selling me everything he could which is what a lot do!

Next to order Probs at end of next month is
Loba hpfp
Rs4 valve
Wellycooler/peron/s3 cooler

Bit undecided on where to go with the intercooler but it's looking like a wellycooler and just trim My crash bar down :)

Keeping an eye out for cheap s3 rear brakes aswell as the fronts have bedded in and I'm learning just how good they are and gaining more confidence in them when doing really hard braking it feels like the car is doing a 'stopie/endo' and the rear becomes really loose.
I did have new dampers and h&r 30mm springs aswell as new discs and pads front and rear to do next.

BUT my brother bought a steel grey dsg ed30 last month and is eager to get down to r tech for a stage 1 map so I'm trying to get my hardware mods done so we can go down on the same day, so it's all powaaa now :)

Car is taking shape now and I'm enjoying it when the weather isn't too crappy! I'm moving out at the end of this year so wanting to get it where I want it sometime this summer :)

Allows more fuel pressure from an upgraded HPFP. Only a tune can make it worth it.

Deffo do it if I let is off! Pain to fit whilst on. I took opportunity to fit it whilst front end was off made access a little easier and could actually see what u was doing.
Fitted one on my brothers ed30 with everything on and was a pita

Finally an update to bring! Lol house has had all my funds for the last year or so..
Got few more bits fitted
R tech twin plate heat shield
Rs4 valve
Wellycooler
Autotech hpfp internals

Been at r tech today to go from stage 2 to 2+
Came out with 368bhp and 398ftlb so big grins all round
Have the g201 fault ATM so traction control is permanently off so struggling to get the extra torque down! (Not used to it)

Also dropped my dads mk6 r off that he's just bought which has a massive spec list fully built with garret turbo so see what niki can do with that. It's had virtually every chassis mod you could think of apart from a cage so should be a little racecar when done :)

Few pics below and the graph.
Plans next are

xenons!
And just few bits to tidy it up (bit of paintwork) wanting to get it in tip top condition as I have my own garage now so can maintain better standard with paintwork.
Wouldn't mind doing a few interior bits then, led's chrome switches mk6 heater controls etc.

Lovely spec on this. Pretty much had identical plans but opted against going stage 2+ due to costs, but it seems well worth it since you've done the chassis upgrades to help put down the power! Does the car still feel strong and solid when going through the gears?

I'm a fan  :happy2:
