Title: RCN210 Battery Drain
Post by: churchgirl on January 11, 2019, 08:26:14 pm
I'm looking to upgrade the stock head unit with an RCN210 (USB, SD, Bluetooth) and, if possible, not have to upgrade the canbus gateway - it seems like a pain of a job.

I've read loads of stuff online about the battery drain conundrum, but can't make sense of it all given the age of some of the posts and subsequent re-releases of the head unit - the problem being some work and some don't depending on the generation. I know I have an older "incompatible" canbus gateway (1K0907530F), so my question(s) is this:

- Do I need to upgrade the canbus gateway if I have tapped into the A/C controls? I have read somewhere - among a lot of other things - that since the A/C controls are part of the CAN convenience circuit and not the CAN entertainment circuit, the head unit should not cause the battery drain issue. The head unit I purchased came with a loom that had CAN cables ready to be spliced in.

-If the above proves that I would need to change the canbus gateway, is there an easier alternative to this?

Here is the head unit I purchased for reference: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F123268500336

Thanks

You need to change the can gateway. I can provide one precoded for your car to be plug and play. Its 55 delivered. Honestly, you will mess your wiring with tapping it to CAN AC controls. Just wait to blow up the fuses..
