After much work and a couple of thousand lines of code the mods catalog is now active.
Will be posting more info and how 2 soon. For now add some mods.
Once mod is added users who have this mod can review add links etc. Plus you can add the mod to your profile.
Thanks to @rich83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=709) for sorting the categories/images.

Added authors being able to edit mods to do list.
Don't think delete will be an option as others may have added the mods to their profiles.
-
Already added it to the correct section, so in this instance "removing" however not worried if both need to go, I can re-add. :happy2:

I've tried @dazza (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10457) but with no luck, nothing is happening when I press the Edit tab, likewise nothing is happening now when I try to add a new mod....+Mod tab pressed with no luck? Is it me?
-
Haven't yet, on ipad ATM which means all buttons are black... Will do later, but I'm sure someone else would've tried before then.
Tis a great feature... I wonder if a stripped down list of the mods could be added to the user signature strip? Or perhaps a sidebar profile link to Mods like the VW badge... Gees, when will it end Dazza? :rolleye:
-

Need to make a new section for exterior mods. Started to do it last night then got sidetracked.
-
@mc71 can you clear your cache and try again.
i Just added and modified a post as user with no problems.

Just tried and managed to edit my Smoked Indicators mod on my iPad no problems.

Am I being spectacularly stupid (highly likely)? I cant seem to link to ebay in the buying link.
Edit: done it. I was being stupid!

That's interesting, I just see black buttons with black text... Are you seeing the colour buttons on your ipad? Which IOS and Browser you using mate?
-
Added a new "exterior" category and moved the open fog grills. :happy2:

Cheers mate, perhaps it's an iPad brightness thing... I wonder if the text was white, then it work better on the black/grey and colour versions.
-
Could be. Grey/white would be easier to see.

Works great on PC :happy2: IOS text could be lighter on the buttons as above.
You thought about adding the Mod Name to the Title of the document and description etc. for SERP's? I think you'd end up creating A LOT of forum traffic, perhaps unwanted, once the Mod Catalogue grows.
-
I've added one, think I've got it right now :jumping:
-
added counts @rich83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=709) there are two intake cats in the db??
-
All I can say is wow :congrats:
I've used a fair share of forums over the years and this is by far the best I've seen, this feature is a fantastic idea :happy2:
-
Brilliant feature! I've already clicked several bits I want so hopefully someone will spot this :happy2: and sell to me first :signLOL:

Awesome, just gets better.
Think if the buttons had a white color, it would work two fold; i.e better for the colour bg button version and for the dark grey/black version on IOS.
Think it's in mod.css, just add color:#fff
.want_add
.but_add
.mod_button
Dazza knows - teaching Gran to suck eggs. :rolleye:
-
Making it even easier to find ways to spend my money

Keep it up :happy2: :notworthy:

Those coloured background buttons are dark grey/black on my iPad 4.
Thought a white font color would suit both the coloured version and anyone who's using IOS.
It's in mod.css file
and specifically these class types:
.want_add
.but_add
.mod_button
You using Firebug?
It's not really an issue chaps, just wanted to highlight it. :happy2:
-
Scott... can you post up a screen shot please?
-
Not sure how to screenshot on iPad (does anyone know?)
But I've taken a pic on my phone, lol:
Notice the black text on Black buttons AND the DIV is pushed clear of the sidebar menu, probably fixable by removing any clear tags.
-
Regarding the drop of the DIV above, it's a width constraint issue, manually resize your browser to see the effect. :happy2:
-
@Scottymon (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7640) can you check buttons please?
-
Buttons now work on IOS as they do on the PC :happy2:
The drop of the DIV is still present, but I'm sure a bit of a tweak will sort this... iirc (from earlier) it's around 1177px :happy2:

Oops, this needs moving to the Exterior Lighting Cat when someone gets a moment: :happy2:

All good on iPhone and iPad for me; some slight text falling off the menu, but :happy2:

Post up some screens and what device and i will see what i can do. Thanks for adding some great mods.
I'm sure when you edit a mod you have the full list of categories??
-
lol.
Cool, never noticed that on the Edit Mod... will sort them now.
-
If anyone wants to improve or add to the crapy descriptions i've added to my mods please feel free. The written word is not my strongest point. And the descriptions i've ripped off eBay may not be accurate.

This is taking shape rather nicely :drinking:

The only other thing that's a bit different on that Mod page is there are 4 / 5 images uploaded iirc.

Nice one. Also, think I may of just added the 100th mod... Was actually quite tricky as now I've sat down and tried to list the modifications I've fitted I realise I've not really done much! 150 photos, mostly after I've cleaned it. I need more modifications! :P

@dazza (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10457): In my profile summary the Interior mod list has two different lists for each subtype:

Can someone remove the repeated image, please? If possible make all the URL of the images added visible when editing too.
Thanks!

Done.
As multiple users can add the images its would be complicated to pull all the images back out for editing. Considering images are copied, renamed and resized to multiple sizes every time someone adds or edits a picture. If i didn't do this the images would take ages to load as is the case with the FS section.
Will add it to my never ending todo list. If not just post any changes here and i'm sure someone will sort it.
-
Firstly thank you for everyone that has contributed to the mods section.
People have spent a lot of time adding mods and i've spent a lot of time making the mods section very user friendly.
A couple of things:
1. Don't bother adding every mod to your profile as i will just delete them and block you from the mods section.
2. Wanted items are for people looking to buy. I've already been contacted by a member regarding an item i had as wanted. Don't waste people time and add items you have no intension of buying.
-
160 and counting... :signLOL:

@dazza (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10457) - problems all fixed, thanks very much!
Here's a crazy idea to get you thinking. Currently, users can add a modification via the mods catalogue as "wanted". What if, using the same categories in the For Sale section, the forum could auto-notify sellers when people click "wanted" in the mods catalogue. Or when you clicked wanted is shows a list of current adverts that match your requirements.
For example, say I clicked "wanted" on a NQSBBK in the mods catalogue. User X has one for sale. Both of us get informed automatically that there is one available/one required and helps speed up the search process for mods?

Good idea but i don't know how to implement it. The FS posts have not been modified they are stored in the database the same as this post i am typing now. Not really an easy way to access them. Another reason why the fs section is slightly slow.
The only thing to do would be build a classifieds section then the possibilities would be endless.
-
So been looking at the mods cat a couple of the mods i'd like to learn more about.
How about a Q and A on the mod page.
If a mod has an unanswered question an icon will show on the mod cat page.

OK another thought.
When a user adds there first mod.
You have to select your platform.
Then we could incorporate some mods from our members not running a mk5
When you add a mod you could then selects what platform its for.
Or am i making it to complicated.
-
I think you should post an additional image with your mod on, not just catalogue photos; I've done it with most of mine where possible.
I also think each Mod should be re-edited by the owner over time, so that it is a more rounded detailed post.
I like the idea of the Q&A that could be very handy. Once a mod is really well featured, peeps should start linking to it/them as a means of answering a forum question... you know we have the "Which DV is the best" etc.
-
Not sure if the mod section has a point on listing mods not for mk5. Some mods can be done in different cars that share the mk5 platform, so those can be listed. Others like different head lights, radios, etc., I don't see the logic. There are other forums dedicated to those other vehicles.
-
Sorry i meant versions within mk5/mk6 etc
-
You can make another list just for other kinds of engines that we can select/write a prefix to identify which engine it's referred to. Most mods here are for the 2.0 TFSI/TSI engine so it should have the most visibility, I think.
-
Q & A done bit of testing please. Do we need to show unanswered questions on the category pages??
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?page=mods&mod=64
-
should be counts on category pages now if there is an unanswered question.
-
I know its not really a mod but how about adding a detailing section.
I will disable it from being counted in mods total.

Is it possible to edit a review on a mod? I made a grammatical error and my OCD senses are driving me mad! :fighting2:

Go to your mode and at the up right corner...........Edit Mod button....

So its actually going to be a complete catalog like the mods. One section would not have been enough.
All done just need the categories. @rich83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=709)

Quick question, if we copy an image URL from a website, is the image saved to the local DB here or does it pull it from the linked site everytime? Just curious as I wouldn't want a website to change their links only for it to become redundant here. Hope that makes sense!

We copy the image to the forum. This is removed when you update an image.

Great thanks.
Also, you probably know but just to let you know that on the new detailing section, when you add a product you can choose from 2 categories, which creates duplicates in the number counted but only one item displayed.

the idea is you can add product to 2 categories do not add to the same category.

We are getting a few questions in the mods section now. I will see if i can tap into the notifications and message users with that mod??
For now mods with unanswered questions are red.
-
Thoughts please.
If you car came from the factory with cup holder should you add this as a mod??
IMO no you shouldn't.
-
I don't think the Basic Standard Poverty Spec items should be in the main categories, but optional extras are OK imo.
E.G: Xenons, Cruise Control etc. OK,
but stuff like GTI seats, GTI dials, GTI bumper, kick plates etc. should be in a sub category "Standard GTI Parts" because they are useful for those who don't have a GTI; Part numbers etc. but won't clutter the main listings for those who have them already i.e. Every GTI5 owner.
-
Scottymon's suggestion is very good. Create a sub-category for the standard GTI parts like he suggested as it will be more easy for non-GTI owners to find the GTI parts and won't clutter the rest.
-
Maybe you can also make a new category with standard equipment because some might not have some parts that come standard in higher spec'd models but still want to get them in their Golfs. I'm thinking in the dash cubby, cup holders and highline cluster, for example.
In my country all GTIs have an highline cluster, MFSW, cruise control and 18'' Detroits/Monzas II. In the UK they don't so it's hard for me to know which is standard and which is an optional. It's better that the admins put the different items in the correct category if they're misplaced. I've put many GTI standard parts but I know not all Golfs have them, so they might help those who want to get them to know the part number or even their existence.
-
Thanks for your input guys. Some of the items that have been added i doubt anyone has retrofitted. If they have IMO they should be the only users that add it to their mods list.
Banjo bolt delete for example if people start adding this cos their car has no banjo bolt. It defeats the whole object of what i was trying to do. If someone asks myself or bigmig95 about this mod we can advise them how much of a pita the nut under the manifold is.
Or another scenario 50 users have rain light sensor maybe i should retrofit it. LOL pita.

just added another 20 odd mate. hope it helps

A lot of those things you added (and selected) are not mods on your car. Defeats the purpose...

The RCD510 DAB shouldn't be in the OEM Sat Nav category: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?page=mods&mod=203 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?page=mods&mod=203).
The only available for mk5 and mk6 Golfs are MFD2, RNS-310, RNS-315 and RNS-510.

It's fine where it is.

It's fine where it is.
My question is that the radio doesn't have navigation like the ones I mentioned. You can make a new category: OEM Radio.
-
These two mods are basically the same:
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?page=mods&mod=44
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?page=mods&mod=111
When I added it in the Exterior Lighting category I didn't see that there was already an equal in the Interior Electrical category.
The admins can choose which to keep, I guess.

My xenons were factory fitted as an option when new.
Not a modification I've done.
I selected xenons because obviously I have then.
-
I'm not going to tell anyone to remove a mod. I built the system with an idea of how it should work and it worked against me in this case. Members contacting other members for help with a mod they have no idea about.
-
Xenons are a mod so should be listed.
-
This is a MODS catalog not a list of the features you car came from the factory with.
If you've modded it add it to your profile. If not don't bother as other members may contact you for help and advice you cannot provide.

-
It was a different problem which i think he sorted.
-
Not updated this in a while.
We now have 236 members with mods and a total of 2384 mods.
Can we add some oils please??
The detailing catalog is a bit sparse if anyone has anything to add that would be great.
