Title: Andy's mk5 GTI
Post by: Rigsby on July 20, 2017, 10:33:27 am
Hi,
I recently picked up  a 3 door mk5, dsg, in black.
55 plate
66k
full s/h
18" monza's
Tartan cloth seats
xenons
highline clocks
Paddle shift
MFSW
cruise control
cliamte control.

Cosmetically it needs a few jobs

rusty wings ( going to try the 12 yr corrosion warranty at vw)DONE with no help from VW
DSG Service .......,..DONE
rear bumper respray .........DONE
wheel refurb .........DONE
dings ( i will sort this at a later date) DONE
rip in seat bolter ( later date)
MODS ( After ive got it looking mint)DONE

So far ive replaced the cam follower and hpfp and refurbed one wheel ( took ages).

All in all loving the gti dsg, coming from an ep3 ( had x2) Focus st 225, alfa v6, Rs....etc

only fault is the car feels slow, especially top end, is this normal?

Welcome along!

Nice list to keep you going too...

It shouldn't feel slow unless you've come from something fast. Did you do your diverter valve and PCV while you were at it? Can guarantee they need doing if not done before.

After, a lot better, i also sprayed the hub part of the discs satin black

K03 GTIs can feel a bit breathless at the top end, especially in warm weather. You might be right about the power delivery making it feel slower than an EP3, but the mid range should more than make up for it. A standard k03 GTI is at least as fast as an EP3.

I change up at 5.5k or thereabouts (if I'm trying to make progress). There's nothing to be gained beyond that, and you're well into the torque once you hit the next gear.

Welcome to the site :)

Interesting what you say about changing at 5.5, I did think that

It's probably just something to get used to - a Type R will just be getting going at 5.5!

@Rigsby (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11668) Like the look of the refurbed wheel.  I am looking at doing my wheels soon and wont be getting the diamond cut finish again.  What colour did you go for?

@H18Golf (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10324)

Just used a sander to cut back to bare alloy,( kept the infills grey as they were fine)  kept using finer grade wet & dry paper and finished with a polish and sealant

Just had a look to see what diverter valve i have on the car, found it's a rev b, so that means it's old right?

Anyway just ordered a rev g from awesome gti, hopefully the old one is ripped and im loosing loads of boost, hoping to see a difference with the new one fitted  :driver:

I'd be surprised if the REV B wasn't ripped!

Could you not see any rips on the diaphragm yourself? It comes off with a pull.

Keep the solenoid, handy for use with a GFB DV+

Kinda pointless doing a build thread when Photobucket arent allowing hosting of pics.

Just changed the diverter and the old one was shot to pieces.
Car feels fantastic now..can feel it boost now ..Like a turbo should,

One thing to note, I'm sure my old diverter electric connection pointed up, now with the rev g it points down? Is this ok.
I noticed there was a little round plastic thing protruding on the face of the valve, I lined this up with the little hole in the turbo

Already have power flex dogbone insert but not enough.

Downpipe arrived and sent it back as the band clip didn't fit, just waiting for refund so I can buy another.
Thinking of doing the R32 rear bumper/exhaust next month.
Does anyone run a decat and backbox delete? Just wondered how loud it will be?

Been doing a few things to the car today while watching the f1
New fuel regulator on the hpfp and a bfi stage one trans mount insert, back to running sweet.
Just need to modify the engine mount now with left over poweflex mounts. I'm going to cut them up and fill all the empty spaces and tiger seal in. Job for another day

Just thought I’d update this:
I’ve sorted the dent on the Bootlid out (swapped tailgate)
I  replaced the thermostat , was a bit of a mare.
H&R springs were fitted , enjoyed doing these, no siezed bolts 👍🏼.
Rear 15mm spacers, I’ll get some 10mm for the front on payday.
I’ve also fitted an auto specialist (amd) induction kit.
Next job is a stage 2 map and new front wings and pdr a ding out my door
Here’s a few pics

Also got these with my induction kit ( intercooler pipes)
Not sure I would see any benefits to fitting these?

Nice upgrades @Rigsby (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11668) Looking really good with the Ed30 rear light tints. . Nice mod you've done there with the engine mounts  :happy2:

My tuner commented on well the car drove, so it’s nice when people comment, it makes all the hard work we put in worth it

Car is now mapped stage 2, running 276bhp and 320ibft
Next up is to get the dsg mapped  as I think it’s limiting the torque when changing gear in wot

It does man, and good figures on the map.  :happy2: I'm hoping to get the same in the summer. For now just sticking to minor mods and maintenance.
