Title: Headliner Material

My headliner has failed  :sad1:
Looking for a material to use for a retrim.

Made a few calls today none of the places i called had anything to match a MK5 GTI.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've also read that it may be better to replace with material without a foam backing any thoughts on this?

Could sell one of the kids and go down the alcatara route.

Due to the heat here i don't think the ones as the scrap yard would be in good condition.

If you  do retrim using alcantara or suede,  use hest resistance trim fox adhesive.  Best stuff

It does look nice (and the gauges). Don't think i have the skills to retrim the headliner and pillars.

I see a lot of red audis with matte paint (the older ones). Clear coat flaking off etc. The beater has started to flake but it is 18 years old and never garaged. But i suspect if it was in the UK i would have a lot of rust.

Would of rusted away with the amount of salt we use in the winter  :signLOL:

It does happen after 10 or more years in some cars but I'm not if it's just the heat or the UV that burn the clear coat of the paint.

The good thing about the warmer weather is we don't get as much rust since salt isn't used on the roads.

I think alcatara is a little OTT for me. I may cut a couple of squares out of the headliner and send it to some companies to see if they have a match.

Opening up an old thread. Surly someone knows a good replacement material for the headliner?

If not may get the charcoal or black from here not sure which?
