Hi guys
Has anyone had success getting their Edition 30 Pescaras refurbed to the original OEM colour? I gather it can be hard to find a good paint colour match as BBS have not issued a paint code for them...
Also any refurb company recommendations in milton keynes area for this?
Cheers

I did this exercise a few years ago and couldn't source the original colour, so I went for Bentley grey instead. I got mine done at Paint-it UK in Essex.
-
thanks yeh it seems tricky to find the exact code but would have thought these refurb company's would have like paint cards, and be able to match pretty closely? but maybe not. A lot seem to be be going various shades of grey, or silver - silver being too bright and grey being nice but darker than OEM.
-
I found code L8Z8 then went for a shade of anthracite :happy2:
-
BBS used to sell the visually identical VZ model in anthracite. Looks like a great choice for black cars

I'll have to dig out my paperwork, but believe I had mine done in what Lepsons call "Light Anthracite", see my post on this thread: https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,125961.msg1135966.html#msg1135966
The official VW Ed30 BBS part (1K0 601 025 AT QQ9) colour was called "Titan Grey". VW also released their own spare part later on for the Ed30 which was made in Poland by Ronal (1K0 601 025 CC) and was identical to the BBS made part apart from the colour, which was a lighter silver.
@Sparkie90 (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10094) You are right, lots of discussion about the actual paint code and it looks like BBS never released it to VW, but you'd have thought they could have got it spot on.
@all Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe some wheel refurb companies use a paint base colour with a powder coated lacquer and some (inferior imho) use a powder coat base colour with a paint lacquer? I guess if it's the former, they may be able to colour match.
Cheers

Hi,
notoriously difficult and often better to go for at least 2 (1 side) but Id recommend all 4 to be redone.
In Manchester I had a good experience with TheWheelSpecialist , but its a UK franchise so each location could be very different.
They did shadow chrome on some BMW X5 wheels and the service / finish was outstanding
The thing I liked was they had examples of most finishes available to see in the shop.
Any near to you?

The one in Leicester actually has a a pick of Pescaras refurbed (probably someone on here)

I used A1 wheels in Wolverhampton who matched them to VW Titan Grey. They did say standard silver would be easier and cheaper to match but I wanted close to OEM as possible.
-
And how did Titan Grey turn out in the end @stealthwolf (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=60) ?

I had the refurbed initially in 2010 directly then again in 2013 through DMR who also used the same company.
-
What is your opinion of them then? Too bright? They look fairly spot on to me in that picture.
I did mine a couple of years ago but I always think I went too dark. I acquired the wheels just after a bright silver refurb and I miss the silver but not sure I miss how bright silver it was.
-
They looked like the originals to me.
-
Excellent, I'll likely give that colour a try soon!

I was in the same dilemma recently. When I bought my ED30 from Cardiff VW back in 2012 I asked for the wheels to be refurbished and they were refurbed (face only) in a colour a bit darker than the original silver. I liked the colour but it wasn't a proper job as the barrels of the wheels were rough. Recently the fronts of the wheels started corroding.
Due to not using the car so much in lock-down and finding a good local refurbishment company (The Wheel Specialist) I had mine refurbished in BMW Ferric grey. I didn't want bright silver, or standard, or anthracite (too dark on steel grey car IMHO), but this was perfect for what I wanted to match to what I was used to. Very similar to VW's Titan grey I believe...

Great to hear. You'd really think they'd be more pics on this thread considering it's about wheel refurbishment. :)

Well, I agree!
My wheels started out as ones that I bought off a forum member and they had very recently been resprayed in silver which I thought was too bright and didn't suit the car.

Then I got them refurbed in Sept 2017 and asked the refurber to get them as close to OEM as possible and he said "no problem, I know what you want" but I think they turned out too dark and didn't quite suit the car again!

So, I'm hoping for my next refurb that I'll get somewhere in the middle!
Pic overload, I'm sure, sorry haha :)

Rossimac - Think the colour they are in the now are perfect on the car :happy2:
-
Got to agree, I think that colour looks spot on with the grey
-
Yep, another vote for how they are now; Spot on for your colour car. I'm hoping mine look that good on my black car.

I managed to get access to my Flickr account again... here are pics of mine. BMW Ferric grey. They look darker in the pics than in person...

I think that looks similar enough to mine as it is now. I think I agree with all here that the darker shade definitely looks better! Would still like it slightly lighter, but no where near what it was when it was fully silver!
