Just picked my Mk5 up from dealer after having rear trailing arms and lower arm bushes replaced after they were found to be defective in a vehicle inspection prior to having a minor service. I am astounded at the change of the handling of the car but new frt tires and 4 wheel alignment have probably helped.........got a smile on my face now despite the bill! :scared:  :P
-
My local "stealer" said my trailing arms needed doing. They also said my front cv boot needed replacing altho my local m.o.t center said they are perfect.

Was the air in the boot also need replacing?

Ive just replaced the bushes( PFR85-508) on both sides trying to sort a squeak without success. Easy enough to do once the bolts were loose ARB next :signLOL:

Cheers

wait till you got to replace the toe adjuster bushes - OMG the bolts #cut time! :fighting:

I have all manner of thumps, bangs, taps, knocks, rattles, kapows and kabooms coming from my rear end. I keep putting off a rear end overhaul as there are so many bushes, but I'm thinking I might just buy all the prebushed arms and links and just get it done over a weekend.
As Amanda said, having a fresh rear end is very satisfying indeed!

That’s what dealer did with mine .......said by the time you paid for labor to change bushes it was approximately same price.
Ohhhhhh am very pleased with my rear end now ...........it’s very firm!!!! :P :booty:

Ecs sells a refresh kit. Comes complete genuine and there made up parts.
-
Ah nice one, didn't know that. And here it is: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/rear-suspension-refresh-kit-stage-2/1k0512297dkt/
Still 4 bushes to press out/in though, and a whole load of bolts to buy, but it's a lot easier than rebushing every arm / link.
-
Hmmmm that looks like a us link as it’s in $ so don’t forget to allow for the dreaded import tax which when added brings it up to about what I paid including fitting and all the nuts and bolts required   :P
-
I’m sure one of the company like awesome sell parts uk side for ecs.
Would be worth giving them a shout see if they have that kit in stock or could get it.
Then no import taxes.
-
The import taxes etc are reflected in Awesome's prices for overseas parts, and then some! Example: Neuspeed RSE07 8x18 wheel, $808 direct from Neuspeed in the states, which is £691 on XE.com. From Awesome? £1269!! Double the price. Absolutely ridiculous.
I suspect it would be cheaper to buy the parts individually from the dealer rather than use Awesome.
-
All I will say is I now have 2 yrs Warrenty on work and I am happy rather than paying more for awesome
-
Bad idea then lol. Be best to source the parts and use a specialist then. Or if you can fit your self. Will save a lump of cash

I rebushed my Corrado years ago, front to back, all oem rubber. It drove like new again afterwards. Really need to do the same on the GTI. No one likes a soggy old undercarriage. Even cars need a face lift and some fresh botox from time to time.
-
Indeed some must people should do to their cars.. Gives back the joy driving older cars.
I also replaced my intire rear subframe last summer - Will go after every bolt and nut now when swapping for other brake setup and summer wheels with full alignment done and also made sure all bolts and buts are tightened to VW spec new when bushes has settled after some kilometers drivin :)
