In answer to your question, I regularly achieve 34mpg + on my daily commute and my long term average is just over 29mpg. The worst I have ever seen is around 19mpg  :P

Average around 25mpg in city driving and, because I can't help myself, 30mpg on the motorways.

Today I was stuck at 60mph because of traffic and whether and was getting well over 50mpg for ages, but then it all cleared and I booted it

The trouble with the GTI is I find it too difficult to not floor it given the first opportunity.

Lowest I've had is bout 20mpg but that was some hard driving.

I can see your point John_o but it is reasuring to know we have a car capable of some economic runs if we desire. Can't say many Ford ST/CTR drivers can say the same  :happy2:

Just took the Gti out on an awesome little adventure in the wet/rain/falllen leaves and was using upto 6000rpm heavily in 3/4th gear, and got the brakes squelling like a little pig and the mpg average said 15.4mpg which i think is pretty amazing taking the speed/throttle usage into consideration.

I say you all go out right now and enjoy your favourite backroad with ESP off  !!!

Not mad just a bit looney about driving !!!, needed to release some stress, nothing better than concentrating at the point where the headlights meet the road in the distance and planting the throttle and adjusting the steering to suit, just be careful of those deep puddles and those leaves, had some stoole stopping moments but all part of the fun, especially those 4wheel slides !  :driver:

i don't condone Drink driving unless its on the playstation ! LOL

enjoy that bottle, i think i shall have a tipple of some cognac ! too  :drinking:

I can manage 35 mpg on a decent run to a track day but when I'm there the worst (or best depending on how you look at it) has been 9 mpg :happy2:

My average is about 24 and I usually get around 280 miles per tank. Last week I drove like a granny everywhere and managed to get 365 miles out of ONE tank  :jumpmove:.........BUT.......it bored the sh*t out of me and it is not what I bought the car for so the usual 280 mile tank will resume as of today  :rolleye:
