Title: 8 to 10 speaker upgrade
Post by: th3_f15t on April 24, 2014, 09:57:51 pm
Hey, bit of a random one. My 3dr Golf has the standard 8 speaker setup (2 in each front door). If I bought new door cards that came from a car with 10 speakers (3 speakers in each door), are the mounts for the additional speaker already on my door structure or is it built only for 2 speakers?

It's built for 3, so quite easy, but the extra wiring and crossover that should also be fitted might be a nightmare if your not used to stuff like that

I've wired in upgraded speakers, crossovers, sub's and amps in Fiestas before (yes I'm an Essex chav, it was law to have sub in my white Fiesta) so not scared of a bit of wiring. Thanks for the reply mate!

Do 10 speaker setups work in 3 doors?
Thought they were all 8..

Better off buying better door speakers and a better head unit than faffing around doing an 8 to 10 speaker conversion.

I've seen some door cards that fit a 3 door but also have the grills for 3 speakers per door. While I'm swapping door cards I planned to re-do the speakers, logical to while their exposed! And while I'm at it, going from a 2-way to a 3-way is worth while too for the extra few quid.

Also, is it 16.5cm 2 way systems in both the front and rear of a 3 door? Do I need the adaptor rings for both front and rear?

I think the standards are 8" in the front doors although you can mount either 6.5s or 8s you'll need adapter rings because the factory units are all in one and are riveted to the door. There are a few vids on YouTube...  :happy2:

My previous mk5 was 3dr and had 10 speakers. My GTI only had 8... and TBF I didnt notice any difference.

My edition 30 is three door and has ten speakers.  With a aftermarket head unit there is a noticeable difference between this and my previous 8speaker gti

8" in the front you say? Google time...

The age old question, what's the better brands to look at when you have a mixed music taste? I know this is a very perceptive thing, but I've always gone for JBL as they deliver a good all round sound.

Anyone recommend something else to consider?
