Well my car isn’t happy I have major electronics failure. I’ll try and summarise
Sunday, noticed the drivers door wasn’t always being recognised as being open and sometimes being opened whilst driving.
Tuesday, battery flat
Wednesday, charged battery
Today,
Radio keeps cycling the startup, not actually activating
Drivers door will only activate its own window / folding mirror
No display of car (doors open etc) in the MFD
Cannot seem to connect to vcds 09 cecm, day ensure all doors are unlocked (they are)
Cannot connect to 46cecm via vcds, but can through mfd
Any ideas  currently considering a lighter

Bloody hell mate
Not funny but what the actual fish
-
Ha I know had it for 5 years and now everything is going wrong
Think it’s trying to tell me it’s time to move on. Thought it was a simple common door lock issue but thing have deteriated since
-
Have you tried swapping out the door control modules?
-
No haven the swapped anything yet. Have a new latch / switch on route so trying that first. Do have an old module so could try that also.
-
First I'd get a new battery on it with that many faults.
-
Just to update / keep a record.
Car started ok this morning after standing for 12hrs (would from 4hrs yesterday)
Some of the faults above ie immobiliser and havc are due to highline and mk6 panel upgrade
-
Ok so today have tried to tackle the door issue.
So the drivers do is constantly saying the door is open regardless of actual state.
Tonight I have swapped over both the door latch and control module, neither have made a difference.
I have checked the loom between the door and car and it’s perfect
The controls for the drivers door will do that window and mirror, but not any other windows or mirrors or the fuel flap.
Have removed the loom connection and the fuse although it removes the power it still shows the door as open in the mfd :sad1:
Any ideas?
Maybe @SI-R32 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1757)
-
Reading over all your bits, your original post from vcds is saying you have intermittent comms with drivers door module, so you've checked wiring in the rubber and swapped the module etc,
Plug vcds in and see if it can talk to the drivers door module, with the door open and closed so it's stretching the wires in the rubber.
Have you done any work or added/changed anything in last couple of days?
One other thing can you hear the fuel pump priming when you open door after overnight, trouble starting?
-
Thanks @SI-R32 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1757)
Yeah so it basically deteriorated, noticed that it was not always knowing the true state of the open sh*t door, but now always sees it as open regardless or module or anything. The loom was discovered damaged 3 years ago and was repaired and still all looks good.
Have tried the vcds and it won’t connect to either module that I install. If I try to look at the cecm it won’t let me say ensure all doors are unlocked.
Nothing has been changed, I was going to do a battery test a few weeks ago but had no fuses for the multi meter so I didn’t complete that so the battery was disconnected but that’s it.
Fuel pump doesn’t appear to be priming audibly but haven’t had any struggle starting.
It has been suggested that it’s an ECU issue, could this be a possibility? Where does the door module report back too? I’m in a situation of not being able to use the car as obviously it constantly thinks the door is open so is going flat constantly.
-
if vcds won't talk to the door module but will talk to everything else then that's telling me its the wiring to the module, basically the door module is parralled up with other modules on the convenience can that then goes to the gateway (can bus module 19)
so you really need to check you have 12v on big red and small red cables to make sure it has a supply to the module, then my next port of call would be the door wiring. also check to see if you can talk to passenger side door. fyi the copper could be broken inside the insulation or a soldered joint (if any) could be dry etc etc, its kinda all pointing to the door wiring/module.
as you can talk to the CECM then that would suggest convenience can is ok from VCDS lead through gateway to the CECM which as I said is on the same wires as the front doors.

Fault in the door loom just before second grommet. Legend thanks for the help, would you know which looms are compatible ?

To be fair as you'd have to remove the outta door skin to change the loom I would just expose all the cables and repair them again right back in the door that would probably see the car out as loom could be 40 quid plus and you may not be an exact match.
You could quite easily get some extra flexible cable from ebay etc. not that hard to do depending on skills?
-
Ha yeah the problem is not sure my skills are up to it. I have ordered a replacement used loom from eBay probably not ideal but worth a try. A new looms for the dealers is £115
-
The price is pretty decent, can you tell me where you ordered it?
-
You should try swapping out the door control modules. I think this will definitely help. But of course, if this is not the problem, then you need to consider in more detail a few terms in mechanics. I own an electric car myself. An uncle of mine who has long understood electronics terms told me about the importance of using high-quality circuit boards materials (https://www.4pcb.com/laminate-material-vendors.html). This is the real basis for the work of not only electronics, but also machines, if I understood everything correctly from his words. Thank you for this post, it was interesting
