Title: Ed30 APR Stage2
Post by: khz30 on March 27, 2021, 01:55:09 am
New Member, New Purchase...

Edition 30..

Opinions? It’s running on APR Stage 2. Is it worth taking it to R-Tech to get it checked over?

Looks like a pretty cool example  :happy2:

You can do if you like, I would say unnecessary personally but it won't hurt if you want some specialists opinion. Alternatively there is loads of information on common faults engine wise e.g pcv, cam follower,  diverter valve etc. And how to guides to check and fix/maintain yourself.

Cheers mate. I think I’ll give R-Tech a miss at the moment. Yeh, the common faults etc is cool.

Clean Golf - looks like a lot has been done to this.

Maybe take the time to check what its got - from the 2 pictures I can see its already got Mk7 R calipers, poly engine mounts, what else is there underneath?

Yes your right..it’s got the 4 pot Audi TTS brakes setup. It did have a power flex back box delete along with the catless downpipe but was way too loud for me so I’ve reverted to the original back box with the downpipe. Sounds way better now lol.

Welcome mate.

Car looks very clean!

Got a good spec too.

Any particular reason you want the car checked over?

Did the PO run out of mods and get bored?

Car looks great. I'd recommend going to R-Tech for a once over and possibly a remap. I had APR software on my Ed30 and it made a load of power for stage 1, 321 bhp and 360 ft-lbs, but was found to be running a bit too lean for comfort. The main reason for changing to R-Tech software was the throttle mapping, it was like an on/off switch. The R-Tech remap makes 302 bhp and 325 ft-lbs but its far nicer to drive and the linear throttle mapping is superb, suppose that's the benefit of a custom remap over a flash remap.

Looks like a very well modified example. How does it drive?

The previous owner ended up buying a e46 M3 which was his dream car and wanted to get rid of this. I think he got bored of all the mods. Lol.

It drives well, although the clutch pedal can stay down and I have to flick it with my foot. Not a issue but I was told maybe there’s some air stuck and needs bleeding? Also, they’re very tappety on cold start?

Can't say I blame him, I'd sell my Golf for E46 M3 all day.

Yeah, I'd look at getting that bled through mate, not nice to try and drive like that!
They are very tappy engines at anytime mate, the injectors are noisy and the cam follower. Perhaps have a new cam follower fitted as a piece of mind, and maybe a service. Unless there's history showing it's been done recently.

Your right..will get it checked in the next week or so. The Cam follower was changed at 72000, mileage now is at 84000. It was only serviced 3000 miles ago but will get another one done in the next couple of months too. What do you think?

Nice car and plenty of stuff done to it. I don’t want to scare you, but when the clutch sticks down and you’re having to pull it up with your foot usually means there’s a leak or air in the system! (If there’s a leak you could be sucking air in) It may just need a bleed but when I had this exact same issue, it became more regular, all of a sudden when parking up at work the master cylinder popped and fluid was everywhere lol.
I’d bleed it, see how you get on, but keep an eye on it. You don’t want to be stranded somewhere.

Looks a very clean example this and seems to have been looked after.

I always service my cars right after buying them just for peace of mind. Probably worth changing the cam follower, i've heard of guys getting bad wear after just 10k miles and others lasting up to 20k miles so since it's cheap and easy to replace id say its worthwhile for peace of mind again.

Can’t say I blame him, that was peak M3 for many and still looks great today. If you feel the need to do that many mods to a car, then you have likely bought the wrong car in the first place.

As others have said, for the price I'd definitely be putting a new one in for the peace of mind.

Yeh I’ve heard it could be air in the system. Doesn’t happen too often but one off sometimes. Also yes, will get it serviced again for peace of mind along with the cam replacement too 👍🏽
